We are taking ownership of a lovely Welsh Sec D tomorrow. He's 4 years old. Just been backed and has never had a name.

He has his registered name which is a mouthful so I'd like to find him a lovely pet name that suits his very calm, affectionate nature. Perhaps with a hint of Welshness??

My 3 DDs have come up with several but none that we all like.

The current faves are-

Tango

Tizer

Woody

Zac

and Leo.

Any suggestions gladly considered.

I used to have a section D who looked a lot like yours, called Rhys.

The VERY lovely Leo is settling in a dream.

He is without a doubt the most laid back horse I've ever met. Bearing in mind he'd never done anything or been anywhere in his short life he's taken everything in his stride (he was really rather neglected previously, feet not trimmed for 4 years, sweet itch untreated, never had hard feed etc).)

On his first day with us he suffered the dreaded wormer, which he took without so much as a shake of the head, fly spray from head to toe, never batted an eye lid, walked round the farm and met cows and sheep etc which didn't worry him til a calf chased him and he hopped over a huge fence to escape, fab jumper!

He had his mane hogged to allow me to get to the root of his sweet itch and he stood like a rock, bless his heart. While I was at it I took his feathers off too (cardinal sin for welshies I'm sure but he looks stunning).

I've ridden him twice and he's very green but that's to be expected but he's never even though about a buck let alone tried to do one. He's just the sweetest boy. We're so lucky to have him.

Tomorrow he's in for another battery of "firsts" the vets coming to get his jabs underway (never seen a vet before) and get his teeth checked/rasped. He'll also be getting a micro-chip.

I bought him a Rambo sweet itch rug and he seems much happier in that. Any top sweet itch tips gratefully received as I've never had to treat it before. Anyone tried switch? Might ask the vet about it.

Sorry for the essay but I'm in love with him. He's an angel. DDs and DH also adore him, when they get a look in.

He sounds wonderful . Our cob (not the welshie, he's my sister's) is still hairy because we've been told by someone 'in the know' that we should show him as a traditional but it is very tempting to take off his feathers so we are still undecided. Mind you, our vet took one look and said 'get rid of all that hair, you'll add thousands to his value' but I think he was winding us up!
Woody is pretty sensible too for a young 'un, accepted his first rugs, jabs all that sort of thing without any trouble and is traffic-proof but he's determined that I'm not coming anywhere near him with the flyspray!
