Dog lovers tell me about your dog?

I got mine a few weeks ago from a rescue centre and love him to bits I've always liked dogs but never been a huge animal lover. I'd promised the boys when we got a garden we'd get a dog. So when we moved to a house with a garden and a great park over the road I had to keep my promise.
So after visiting one rescue centre with no joy we went to another and got our 17 month old whippet?/collie cross.
He'd been sent back and on his information from ex-owner it said 1) he hated other dogs 2) he ran away if you let him off the lead 3) he hates the wind 4) he hates being bathed ....etc.

Well, yes he did hate dogs...barked like crazy and totally showed me up. But that lasted a week as I kept taking him to the park, let him off the lead eventually, and calmly got him to socialise. Now he thinks he owns the park
He's only run away once and that was when my bf walked him. I was in hospital and bf had to take him out and dog just ran off. Can you imagine me coming out and breaking it to me that my dog had gone?

Oh and he often goes out with me in gales plus is very compliant when I bathe him.

It makes me sad to think some people just can't give a dog a bit of patience. This dog really is fantastic. So clever and friendly. My kids adore him so does the exdh. He even has him overnight sometimes.

I'm glad though that he came to me in the end

My dog is a whippet/greyhound cross - also a resucue. She's 13 this year (I've had her since she was 12 weeks old) and gorgeous, friendly, loves cuddles & is great with DS.
She hates thunder & fireworks
Not goos with other dogs when on a lead but if she's off (say, running on a beach) she's OK
And I love the look she gives me when I try to make he go out for a wee when it's bucketing down . Comedy dog

My dog is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, picture on my profile.

He is asleep upside down on his beanbag (yes, 'tis a flowery one) at the moment snoring like an old man

He is utterly beautiful and absolutely hilarious. He knows barking to get something he wants or jumping up is not good. So he sneezes instead to get our attention

He loves finding 'booty', something exciting he thinks he mustn't have, and then prancing around the house with it in an attention-seeking please-chase-me manner.

Oh they sound gorgeous Your KCS is lovely flowery.

I'll have to put a pic of my dog on there when I get round to it.

One thing he does that's naughty is chew then bring me bits of 'it' as a present. I got martha's head (doctor who) the other day. Dss were ok about it as I had told them to put toys away.

My dog is a Cavalier king charles also!
she is through in my bedroom sleeping (in my bed) at the moment, soo lazy!
She's so so cute. I was given her from an older couple who couldn't look after her. she's perfect!

My Springer Spaniel cross is lovely. He's a big softy and really good with the children which is just as well as he has recently developed an extrememy rare medical condition and his pills are going to cost £85 a month!
We always said we would never spend this much on keeping an animal alive, but when it comes down to it I can't just put him down when a few pills will keep him healthy.

He sounds lovely Ecmo. Sad to hear of his condition.
I got mine insured straight away as last dog (boxer) cost us a lot of money as she had cancer 3 times

Hope he gets all the help he needs.

our dog buddy is a staffy cross hes the most gorgeous playful dog ever hes v obedient,never snappy he likes to sit and watch tv with the kids and he snuggles up on your knee like a {big} baby weve had him 5 months he was easily toilet trained he never messes or chews (except a brand new x box 360 headset)hes very gentle and all our neighbours love him he doesnt bark or howl at night i walk him with his long walk thru the cemetary and at least 3 neighbours walk with us and t least 8 kids - children bring him treats and hes more recognised than my dh--the only thing is buddy is stffy crossed with pitbull we didnt realise this when he was up for rehoming and when we first suspected it we went to the vets and to the RSPCA who tell us as a cross breed hes ok not illegal and they have all commented on his unique temperament.
to say i wanted a westhighland terrier- buddy is the dead opposite hes v strong tho and weve had to buy a special 'halti'collar to stop him pulling my shoulder out .

Oh and when the boxer was ill a colleague of exdh said "why not just buy another with the money you're spending?" Meaning have her put down

Well our rpevious dogs were Border Collies. One was from a rescue centre, she was a fantastic dog, loved to play. She got put down almost 2 years ago aged 16. The other was rescude from a farm, they were going to shoot her because she wouldn't work with the sheep. When we rrescued her she was tied p in a barn. She crawled, on her belly, backwards, every time we took her out, she stole food, she peed in the house. in fact she was bloody hard work. The farmers had kicked the shit out of her. however we persevered, and she too becasme a great dog, although i think it was in part the first dog which helped her. She got put fdown 7 months after the first, aged 14.
then we got the puppy in April, he too is a Border Collie - picture on profile. However, he is currently unable to do very much as he has broken all 4 metatarsils in his fornt paw! So has had £2365 worth of treatment,a dn a metal frame and pins fitted!

I have a Border Collie too. A brown and white one. She is a bully to smaller or submissive dogs which is really upsetting as she picks alot of fights but only if she knows she will win!
What did your collie do to his paw?

It was a completely freak accident. We were going out for a walk, and as I locked the door he spotted my neighbour and did the usual I'll-go-and-jump-up-at-her type of thing. I don't know if the lead jammed, or got stcuk on her wall, but down he went, the crying he did was terrible, all the neighbours were out.

My dog is a beagle, she's called molly and the sillest dog I've ever known.
She's on my lap at the moment asleep, she hates me being on the laptop and pushes out of the way so she can snuggle.
She can be naughty though and sometimes its like having another child!
She's just over a year old.

Strange thing is, our puppy's brother, who is on our friends farm, but as a pet, fell off the back of a very fast moving quad bike, and got up and ran off!

I've got 2 rescue springers. I love them to bits.

I don't like talking about them on MN usually though - there seem to be a lot of dog-haters on here

you get fined??? thats harsh- dogs are allowed in our cemetary but not off their leads i do let him off but not near the older ladie who get frightened by buddy-i never imagined myself a besotted dog lover but i think i am

My dog is a Staff Cross and he is just over a year old. When we got him in Feb, he had a serious skin infection which has cost us a bomb to sort, but he is worth every penny! He's a big softie and is fab to cuddle.
He gets very over-excited at other dogs and we are wary where and when we let him off as he is a big dog and other dog owners can feel intimidated by his over-enthusiasm! He barks a lot too, at bangs and fireworks, but we are working on that (sorry neighbours!).

I am a dog lover but TBH our drives me insane.

She a collie/whippet cross too actually.

She has anxiety problems, I can't leave her in the house if the dishwasher is on because shes scared of it and has already shedded part of the bathroom carpet and Ds4 buggy because I wentto bed with when the dishwasher was still on.
She'll go out in the garden and refuse to come in. Shes snapped at me a few times when I've treid to get her to come in.

I don't really trust her as much nowadays.

She molts like no dog I have ever known.

Shes terrifed of other dogs after getting chased and pinned to the floor but a staff/pitbull type thing.

TBH, if Dh and teh children woudl let me I'd rehome her. It hard enough work having 4 children without having a highly strung dog too

BTW she spends all day in teh garden, I try and get her in the evening and its then she refuses.
