In terms of size though my cockerpoo was very tiny as a puppy - the smallest in the litter. But she’s 12kg now. Here’s a photo at 12 weeks for reference and to illustrate the many forms poodle mixes come in and because she’s the cutest…

GCAcademic · 05/04/2023 19:21

Some working cockers are very small. The breed varies hugely in size, from Cavalier to Springer size.

knittingaddict · 05/04/2023 19:32

So the vet your friend took her puppy to is the same vet as the breeder used, but the friend and the breeder live one and a half hours apart?

knittingaddict · 05/04/2023 19:36

Even an hour and a half round journey sounds like it's too far for the vets to be the same.

My daughter has a cavapoo. It's incredibly irresponsible to buy a dog the way your friend did. It's asking for trouble and potentially supporting puppy farms.

Dartmoorcheffy · 05/04/2023 19:40

It's a crossbreed/mongrel. Breeders are charging and getting away with extortionate prices for puppies by giving them ridiculous made up breed names .

DonnaDonna0 · 05/04/2023 19:08

It does look like my cockerpoo when he was a pup, although smaller. But like a poster previously said it could be a toy poodle rather than miniature poodle parent which does give a smaller cockerpoo.
For the mongrel comments you’re incorrect, it’s a crossbreed if you look up the correct definition of each.

A mongrel was a term for any dog who came into a family without papers to prove it was a pedigree...it really didn't matter who it's parents were, it wasn't about money then.. ideally you trained it as a puppy to sit and stay on command but most importantly it was loved

DonnaDonna0 · 05/04/2023 21:53

@Whatdayisitalexa that is not the definition of a mongrel.
What is the gain in saying “it’s a mongrel” and commenting on how much you spend on a dog. The main point is it doesn’t matter how much people choose to spend on a dog it’s not anyone else’s business, what is important is to avoid puppy farms and love and treat your dog well.

SoupDragon · 05/04/2023 22:16

It's beyond tedious. Whether it's called a mongrel, a cross breed, a cocker spaniel/poodle mix or a cockerpoo is irrelevant. At least the latter is a shorthand way of saying exactly what it is.

Wolfiefan · 05/04/2023 22:55

It doesn’t matter. But what does matter is where this pup came from. And that’s nowhere good. I wish people would think of the parents of the puppies they buy. Bitches bred over and over.

It could be a toy poodle dad, so smaller, rather than a miniature poodle - that would explain the size.

I was going to suggest this too. Poodles come in multiple sizes. He may be a toy. Pups adorable though.

Quveas · 03/04/2023 18:48

It's a mongrel. They've always been around. Just somewhere people's brains got fried and they thought they were worth stupid amounts of money. Nothing at all (necessarily) wrong with mongers, but they are only worth a lot of money in people's heads.

t they are only worth a lot of money in people's heads

  • isn't anything? 🤷‍♀️
PurpleParrots · 06/04/2023 07:03

It’s difficult to tell the size of the pup when there is nothing to compare it to.

Here’s a 10 week old Cockapoo (girl)

WoofWoofBeachLife · 06/04/2023 07:41

@PurpleParrots 😍😍😍 awww you just made my morning, beautiful super cuteness in abundance. Are these your pups? X

Whatdayisitalexa · 06/04/2023 15:04

What happens when your cockapoo mates with a poodle, are the puppies cockerpoopoos?

MadameThenardier · 06/04/2023 17:28

Whatdayisitalexa · 06/04/2023 15:04

What happens when your cockapoo mates with a poodle, are the puppies cockerpoopoos?

🤣 Nah, it’d be an F1, F2 (or whatever generation) b meaning backcross. For example a first generation cockapoo (from a pure bred poodle and cocker spaniel) bred with a poodle would produce F1b cockapoo puppies. I think it’s usually done to increase the chances of the poodle coat phenotype.

I do like the idea of a cockerpoopoo though.

someadvice20 · 06/04/2023 18:30

My friends happy regardless!
Yeah her paws are quite big to grow into!

She's a lovely dog x x
I'm hoping to go and see her soon in person

@knittingaddict
@whowhatwerewhy

Not sure where in the comment I said she travelled I said as in a video consultation, to confirm/proove the vet she said had been seeing these puppies and that was the mum. And asked a few other questions. Obviously no idiot is going to drive a hour and a half to a vets when she's gonna have one right near her 😅she just wanted to speak to that certain vet. So she was happy at the end of the chat.

Yeah well a lot of people buy dogs off pets4homes and pre loved it's not uncommon, can't just assume this woman is a breeder constantly breeding out her dog 24/7
The dog is 4 and has only had one litter. I'm not going to judge someone I've never met

someadvice20 · 06/04/2023 18:31

@PurpleParrots she does look similar to that size! Just a tiny tiny bit smaller but not by much! Her paws are the same

someadvice20 · 06/04/2023 18:37

@whowhatwerewhy not sure what your on about the breeder used a vet a hour and a half away??
The breeder used a vet near her.
I said she travelled an hour and a half to bring the dog

My friend who bought the dog. Then Spoke to the vet who had been health checking the puppies and seeing the mum, to confirm it is her mum lol and a few other questions she had. This was over a video not in person. So she's more happier now after speaking to her.

(This woman had nothing against her going to pick the dog up from her home, but she's not driving at the moment)

If the dad was a miniature poodle she would be small. Poo breeds vary in size massively

someadvice20 · 06/04/2023 18:39

She got her vaccines done with a home vet in her location - for any confusion
NOT THE BREEDERS VET
SHE ONLY SPOKE OVER THE PHONE/VIDEO to her to clarify some things 🙈

OP posts:
someadvice20 · 06/04/2023 18:40

@liveforsummer

He doesn't seem to small, medium ish size! I'm hoping to see her in person soon, can compare her then and take some pics xx

OP posts:
whowhatwerewhy · 06/04/2023 18:46

The confusion came when you said she spoke to the vet who looked after the mom .
You never made it clear the breeder had passed on the vet's details and your friend paid for a phone consultation.
I took it the vet she had seen for the inoculations was the same vet 🤣
