Looks like some sort of mongrel.

Groutyonehereagain · 03/04/2023 23:32

It’s hard to tell what these crosses are. My miniature poodle gets taken for a cockapoo every walk we have. When you say “no, poodle” they almost always say “she looks like a cockapoo”.

MadameThenardier · 04/04/2023 00:04

Springer or Cocker is irrelevant as I still don’t think that ‘mum’ is the mother of the puppies. She’s Liver which I think is a recessive gene - so I don’t think it’s plausible she would have an all black litter, surely pups would be Liver too?

MadameThenardier · 04/04/2023 00:06

’Dad’ is also not black!

Cockapoo or not??

It is a Shihpoo (shitzu and toy poodle cross).
I know because I have one :-))

Redebs · 04/04/2023 00:27

Dad looks like a poodle cross, rather than full poodle.
Get your friend to check with local council to see if the breeder is registered. It's a requirement. They are extremely cheap, so I'd suspect puppy farm.

Others have said it looks just like their cockerpoo though.

these poodle crosses all look very, very similar!

someadvice20 · 05/04/2023 14:38

Shihpoo

Just googled that and can't say I agree, she might be! But doesn't seem it or look it

Either way won't be a Cockapoo she's too small

OP posts:
Keeween · 05/04/2023 15:15

I don’t think she particularly looks too small. A vet would be best placed to have a good guess at her age but she looks just like my boy did at the same age, and he’s a cockapoo. It’s already been said but a lot of these -poo crosses really are very alike, with little to tell between them.
It’s probably (definitely) a dodgy operation but it’s done now, I hope it all works out nicely.

someadvice20 · 05/04/2023 16:43

@Keeween just confirmed she is from the spaniel mother. So she is a Cockapoo. Vets confirmed it too, the same one who checked the spaniel through out the pregnancy and did first initial health checks when pups first born.

Well.. all I can say is she's the
Smallest Cockapoo I've seen!😂xx

someadvice20 · 05/04/2023 16:45

@Keeween I think she worried because she has a small dog already and didn't want another small one. I said just cause she's small now she's only ten weeks she'll get bigger and bigger as she grows into a proper Cockapoo, she's not from two Cockapoo parents so may be different but all in all they all look the same to me 🙄😂
She had her vaccine yesterday so she's off to a good start.

SoupDragon · 05/04/2023 17:06

She's got decent sized paws to grow into going by the picture with the forearm in it.

So is that not its mother in the photo? The one with the white face?

TigerQueen89 · 05/04/2023 17:20

An exceptionally cute one?

Whatdayisitalexa · 05/04/2023 17:37

It's definitely a dog, a crossbreed of some kind. I hate this kind of thing, we used to call a mongrel a mongrel and loved it all the same..the pricetag only involved to the cost of taking care of it for the rest of its life

SkaterBrained · 05/04/2023 17:42

It could be a toy poodle dad, so smaller, rather than a miniature poodle - that would explain the size.

ZeroWorshipHere · 05/04/2023 17:43

There’s no way that all black litter came from that mum. Your friend is an idiot buying from a puppy farm

MadameThenardier · 05/04/2023 18:50

That’s what I think @ZeroWorshipHere unless the photo of Dad is not Dad, and Dad was black?

popsypretty · 05/04/2023 18:52

Can I ask, why does it matter? Cockerpoo, springerdoodle...it's all much of a muchness! She's a lovely looking dog.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 05/04/2023 18:53

This is so sad. Your friend is very irresponsible for buying a puppy from a dodgy breeder. She should have done her research. Animal is not a toy.

SugarHorse · 05/04/2023 18:53

I really hope your friend is going to show more commitment to caring for this sweet little dog than she did to sourcing her/him. I can't believe she didn't even make the effort to go and see the parents/mother and the situation they came from. It screams to me of your friend wanting a cute little dog but not being prepared to make any effort, nor having any concerns about puppy farms, and this does not bode well for the poor little dog's future life. I really, really hope that I am wrong 😞

Lordofmyflies · 05/04/2023 18:58

All I know is its some kind of cross breed! Looks like a springer crossed with a poodle or poodle mix? Who knows.
One of the many problems with the fashion for poodle crosses is that they are exactly that..a cross of any dog with anything with a bit of poodle in it. It makes it far more difficult to anticipate size, breed temperament, health issues than when purchasing a KC registered pup from an experienced breeder of specific breed with specific health tests.

DonnaDonna0 · 05/04/2023 19:08

It does look like my cockerpoo when he was a pup, although smaller. But like a poster previously said it could be a toy poodle rather than miniature poodle parent which does give a smaller cockerpoo.
For the mongrel comments you’re incorrect, it’s a crossbreed if you look up the correct definition of each.

whowhatwerewhy · 05/04/2023 19:12

So the breeder used a vet an hour and a half drive away 🤷‍♀️
