What is she?

I might be rescuing a kitten but they aren't sure what breed she is... Is she 'just' a standard moggy?

Very round orange eyes and a tail longer than her body

What is she?

I also have a teeny cat.

Mia is almost 8 now and hasn't grown much since she was 4 months old.

She's 3.2kg (compared to an average cat being about 5-6kg).

She is half Burmese.

I think yours could be part oriental of some kind, they have a very slight frame.

Pollypocket89 · 28/09/2020 20:44

I just can't get over how friendly she is to me. She ran the length of the (very long) garden when she saw me and sprang into my arms then wouldn't stop rubbing on me and pounced on my hand rolling over with her belly up

@fucknuckle
In my experience most black moggies are brown in certain light conditions, still moggies (and all the better for it Grin)

Black cats turning brown can be indicative of a tyrosine deficiency: www.vetknowhow.co.uk/blog/why-is-my-black-cat-turning-reddy-brown

bluebluezoo · 29/09/2020 17:01

@GerundTheBehemoth. Is it just black cats? I have a grey cat, whose pale bits on her stomach and legs go gingery in autumn.

I put it down to her very likely having bengal heritage, but her diet is shit as she’s a rescue and has issues with food..

MsQueenInTheNorth · 29/09/2020 17:10

I don’t have any pictures, but she looks a lot like a cat I had as a child.

She was the result of the breeder’s Siamese cat escaping one night and having a romantic liaison with a local moggy Blush

She was inky black and very slight with a long tail and very round eyes. She was very friendly with people she knew but absolutely terrified of strangers and a committed house cat.

It's possible. Tyrosine deficiency affects eumelanin (black/dark grey/dark brown) pigment, so it's most noticeable in black cats. But grey cats have eumelanin pigment too - reduced/diluted amounts compared to black cats, but it's still there so turning gingery could be a sign of a deficiency.

GerundTheBehemoth · 29/09/2020 17:38

(There are other possible reasons for the coat colour to fade though, eg sun-bleaching.)

Pollypocket89 · 29/09/2020 17:48

Interesting!

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats that tail is magnificent!

my sister got a moggy from a very ordinary litter and he’s grown up to be half a norwegian forest cat.

if i had the room i would have SO MANY cats. cats are the best, even when they stomp on your face in the middle of the night looking for a cuddle...

fucknuckle · 29/09/2020 17:56

@GerundTheBehemoth he’s always been chocolate brown, not gingery.

I have the room, i have to restrain myself though as a) rescue cat starves herself at the slightest stress and b) i’ve had two/three cats before and learned the hard way cats are usually happier alone.

Beamur · 29/09/2020 21:17

This is a brown Oriental cat..

What is she?
Madcats · 29/09/2020 22:04

This is Lyra (more of a traditional style) Siamese. She has just been told off!

What is she?
Beamur · 29/09/2020 22:12

Oh my, she is so pretty! My orientals are impervious to being told off. One of them responds literally by fluttering her eyelashes at you with such a look of love it's very hard to remain annoyed. They get away with murder..

Pollypocket89 · 01/10/2020 20:12

I went to visit her once more to be sure before putting my official application in... It was dark walking through their garden and I suddenly felt something hit me

She'd ran and jumped on my back and headbutted me in the face nuzzling Grin

I've never owned a cat before... Is this normal behaviour? I feel like she genuinely likes me

OP posts:
Beamur · 01/10/2020 20:18

I wouldn't say it's entirely normal! She sounds delightful. Cats can be such affectionate animals, I think their reputation as aloof isn't that accurate.
My neighbours cats are hugely friendly to me but I feed them when their owners are away...
I think they definitely know when people like them.

Pollypocket89 · 01/10/2020 20:27

Full moon tonight so almost a paranormalesque experience Grin

There's a few cats in the street where I live and they don't pay any attention to people. She tried to follow me and got in my car

OP posts:
Pollypocket89 · 01/10/2020 21:27

I'm not usually a cat person. I've never disliked them, but never had a bond with one so watching their behaviour is fascinating!

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2020 21:35

Well she has decided you're her person

You have been chosen as her slave Grin

Pollypocket89 · 01/10/2020 22:05

I'll be gutted if her Foster mum decides to keep her!

Ffsnosexallowed · 01/10/2020 22:08

Not mine, family members rescue kitten

What is she?
Madcats · 01/10/2020 22:09

Like I said upthread, buy sturdy fleeces and thick jeans: You will soon be the proud owner of a parrot-kit!

Be prepared to have no choice of which bit of the bed you sleep in.

Pollypocket89 · 01/10/2020 22:27

She didn't have her claws out when she jumped on me thankfully. The woman did say she'd never seen her do that before Grin

Madcats · 02/10/2020 08:22

@Pollypocket89 I really hope you get to adopt that little lady.

When do you find out?
