I might be rescuing a kitten but they aren't sure what breed she is... Is she 'just' a standard moggy?

Very round orange eyes and a tail longer than her body

Does it matter?

She looks lovely.

Pollypocket89 · 28/09/2020 17:35

It matters in the sense of my curiousity and a light hearted thread, or is that not allowed on MN anymore?

The tail is magnificent

Bargebill19 · 28/09/2020 18:11

She's a mini panther 😍

Purplekitchen · 28/09/2020 18:26

Yes, domestic shorthair

Pollypocket89 · 28/09/2020 18:33

Haha she is! I've never felt a cat so light before... Do they stay light as a feather if she's like this at 5 months? I think she'll stay sleek and dainty

Also never experienced this with a cat before. I've met her twice and she sees me, runs to me and jumps into my arms... Is this normal behaviour?

Friends cats as a child were way more standoff ish

Beautiful and what a splendid tail! So lucky to have formed a bond too. You'll be so happy together x

Beamur · 28/09/2020 18:43

Maybe she does have a touch of an oriental breed in her. They are very friendly.

slipperywhensparticus · 28/09/2020 18:43

My apollo is 2 and light as a feather his brothers are concrete blocks compared to him he jumps up at you to give you head rubs and cuddles but he hates being picked up his one brother loves being picked up and the third will ONLY be picked up by my middle son

mylittlesandwich · 28/09/2020 18:44

This wee thing is still very light. Other DCat however is chunky despite a healthy diet and exercise 🤷🏻‍♀️

Moggie

Madcats · 28/09/2020 18:59

OP, that looks a pretty cat!

I wonder if it is part oriental (I am wondering about Tonkinese parentage a couple of generations ago). I'd not heard of a Bombay, but that looks possible.

One of my Siamese is incredibly light and sooo flexible. Her brother is a muscular beast (friendly bull in a china shop), but she was a kg lighter as a 15 week kitten. They both expect to be carried several times a day. Just buy thick jeans and fleeces instead of fine knit jumpers!

Is she chatty?

PurplePansy05 · 28/09/2020 19:12

Depends on how much you're going to feed her really 😁

Cats have different personalities. One of mine is aloof and everything needs to be on her terms, she'd come for a fuss when she wants to. The other one is absolutely lovely, affectionate, all she wants is attention, fuss and snuggle. She's also very chatty, well she sings in fact 😂 Both brought up by us in the same household from kitten so there's no rule 🤷‍♀️

I’ve got a teeny tiny cat. This is her with my regular size cat for comparison. She’s at least 6 now (rescue centre stray so not sure) and she’s always been this tiny.

Pollypocket89 · 28/09/2020 19:38

I do feel a connection to her... Keep your fingers crossed for me as I may not get to have her

The woman fostering her mentioned that she was interested in keeping her so that's frustrating.

Pollypocket89 · 28/09/2020 19:38

Wow she is tiny!

steppemum · 28/09/2020 19:44

she's got the look of an Egyptian/Arabian cat, long nose and long slim body, long tail.

They are like Burmese/siamese.

British shorthairs have more rounded flatter faces, more like Iklboo s cat, (but less fluffy)

We once adopted a cat from a farm. 4 kittens in the litter, each one a completely differwent body shape and size. Ours was 2 x the size of the others, huge lion paws and long lfuffy hair. he looked just like a Turkish Van when we found the photos. But he was just standard farm moggy.

fucknuckle · 28/09/2020 19:49

i rescued a ‘black’ cat from the RSPCA. turns out he’s not black, he’s chocolate brown. he’s got brown nose leather, brown whiskers and his toe beans are rosy pink. his eyes are bitter lemon green. i think he’s a Havana Brown.

he’s my absolute joy.

Here's my 1 year old British Shorthair. Yours definitely looks much younger so I imagine they're correct with 5 months. She looks very sweet.
