...is a lethal killing machine

She is just over 1 and has recently discovered the joys of hunting. So far we have had brought home butterflies, moths, a dargonfly, field mouse (live), several shrews (alive), dead mice (one yesterday left kindly in my laundry basket), a dead sparrow and today a half dead starling which thankfully DH interecpted before she trotted through the catflap with it.
My worry is the kills are increasing in size and we live near a farm....can she get a cow through the catflap do you think?????

(she's in my profile if you want to see what a serial killer looks like !)

Could she pop over to mine? The neighbours are doing building works and we have mice! Well not for the last few days... but your killing machine would be lovely!

I had one cat who tried to bring a live Magpie through the catflap. She had him by the legs and you should have heard the row. Her one side of the catflap holding the magpies legs - magpie the other side - wings outstretched and no chance of fitting through.

She was prevented from that kill by me so the magpie lived to see another day.

MaryAnnSingletomb · 05/10/2007 16:32

the same cat (christmas dinner stealing) also tried to kill a raven when I was house sitting and we had to finish the poor thing off - very traumatic.

Boco · 05/10/2007 16:32

Have you tried a bell on her collar? That's what i do with my cat and it's made a huge difference to the fatality rate of small birds. They hear her coming a mile off now. She's pissed off.

I used to live on a farm and had a cat who managed to kill a pheasant and ram it head first through the cat flap. I came down to find it staring blankly at me, totally wedged. It was like some kind of mafia style horror.

Get the bell - or bells, before she starts bringing home fat stunned rats.

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/10/2007 16:37

aw, she's only being kind. Apparently she is bringing the kill home to her "pride".

so says Desmond Morris in catwatching....apparently

Whizzz · 05/10/2007 16:37

She has a bell !!
I'm thinking of putting one on each paw and one on her tail !

clayre · 05/10/2007 16:39

my cats called bella too and she is also a serial killer!! hmmm

nailpolish · 05/10/2007 16:39

here

aDead · 05/10/2007 16:41

she does all that with a bell? That's pretty impresive hunting!

And keeping in at night ideally, when they are likely to kill most of the mammals, mind you, you dont think she would turn on you do you, if she had nothing else to go for and was shut in?

aDead · 05/10/2007 16:42

my cat can't be bothered to go outside except perhaps in the summer very occasionally if we're out there too.
Gets freaked out by creepy crawlies, poor thing.

Whizzz · 05/10/2007 16:43

YUP - and she is kept in at night - in fact kept in from about 5pm till 8am.

I think she is a serial killing master of disguise, either that or a dab hand/paw with a air pistol.......

that's definitely the cutest mass murderer I've seen .

our cat's only teeny-tiny, and fairly geriatric, so the most she can manage to do is maim the odd daddy-long-legs.

awww your cat's lovely! My cat is also a hunter and every time he comes through the cat flap i have to check to make sure he's not caught anything!

My other cat once tried to bring a RABBIT'S HEAD in through the cat flap. Thankfully it was too big and the cat flap got swiftly locked!!! I have no idea where she got it from, but it was cleanly cut so i think it might have been someone's dinner!

ThreadyKrueger · 05/10/2007 17:09

Am I allowed to talk about my dog, or is it cats only here?

RGPargy · 05/10/2007 17:14

Cats only!!!
