2 cats or 1?

We are getting a cat, and have two daughters, 6&2 who are both used to cats and very gentle with them. The cat is 14 weeks old, the lady who has them said I should get two as they play together. My question is what's better? The cats are siblings just don't know what's better one or two, and which genders?

I got my two cats (brother) for r a fly the same reason as yours. They never play together but that is probably mostly down to their type of breed - quite aloof. It depends on the breed and general nature of the cats.

HeavyChopping · 29/10/2019 09:32

Also it sounds to me like the breeder just wants to flog two cats to you instead of one.

I got 2 brothers. They keep each other company and can play/fight with each other rather than attacking us.

TailsoftheManyPaws · 29/10/2019 09:41

One of each sex, if you have the choice. That gives you most chance that they'll play together as kittens but have different 'territories' as adult cats, and thus not annoy each other too much.

I got two brothers. They are now 5 and still adore each other. They sleep with their little arms around each other.

We currently have three kittens who are siblings. We got them from a rescue centre.

In past I have had two kittens from rescue centre from different litters, they got on well too.

I would recommend more than one Wink

Both my DC have a cat each - male / female siblings. They got on famously as young cats and now mostly leave each other to their own space as they have gotten older.

I'd always have 2.

Amazing thank you so much for all your advice! Definitely getting two 😍 all your kitties are beautiful. Also in regards to a bed for them, one each or one big bed?

Op seriously??
Yours of course.
Though tbf our dkittens had a bunk each with a dd for company!!
Congratulations on becoming a future dcat slave!

Good call to get 2.
My cats have never actually slept in a cat bed. My bed, cardboard boxes, the floor...

LucheroTena · 30/10/2019 16:20

Good decision. I also find cats who live with other cats tend to have better etiquette and get into less fights.

I give them a few bed options and they usually cuddle in the same one. But important to let them have a choice of beds so they can get away from each other- and two litter trays.

Little update for you all- meet Karen and Claude! Named by me and my partner temporarily while watching the apprentice. We quite like the name Claude but can't face called little lady Karen, it just doesn't suit her, she's sassy and sweet!

You have done the right thing op!!
What about Cassie and Claude?

LucheroTena · 03/11/2019 15:58

They’re gorgeous!

arisfurwi · 03/11/2019 19:54

Well it turns out upon closer inspection I was lied to! Claude is a girl and Karen is a boy. Claude is staying Claude, Karen is now Henry!
