A cat is there for me to catch rats and mice and leave the dead bodies outside my kitchen door.

I don't own a cat, btw and I've never seen the cat in question......

Gingernaut · 17/05/2019 17:49

Sorry, that sounds like I catch the rodents.

The cat leaves me presents.

A cats purpose is to bring joy with their toe beans and scream outside your bedroom door at 5 am for food, alongside its human siblings.

I agree with your Dad.

To enslave us and ensure we do their bidding to the best of our clearly limited ability.

To remove spiders and flies.

To do away with vermin including ham out of the fridge

To bite your toes when not doing your duty fast enough

To sit on your paperwork/laptop so you can't waste your attention on work or bills.

To sit on your chest, purr and look at you adoringly.

To lie on your good knee because you broke the other one and provide comfort because they know you are in pain.

To deftly swipe your cheese out of your hand as you are about to eat it.

To go round your neck like a scarf

To catch and eat any flies in the house, same for spiders, to get behind the sofa and refuse to come out when I'm cleaning, to lay in the middle of the bed when I'm trying to change sheets, to hide behind doors and attack the dog as he walks through them, to leave Cs t hair everywhere to make me sneeze, to rub round my ankles when I'm in the kitchen in my dressing gown, and to always want a cuddle at the most inconvenient times.

My favourite cat story is of one who used to take all the letters that came to the house before anyone had seen them arrive and bury them at the bottom of the garden. So that is what cats are for, burying post OBVIOUSLY! (Love cat logic.)

GoldenKelpie · 17/05/2019 20:49

I want to add other benefits...

To follow me to the loo and sit on my knee, supervising as I obviouslt cannot be trusted to do it right.

To drape themselves over my head when I am trying to sleep purring loudly in my ear and dribbling down my face.

To suckle on my jumper and leave a massive wet patch.

To sit on my needlework/newspaper/notebook whenever I am failing to be playing my role as their 'seat'.

To stare pointedly at me hours before it is tea time and wearing me down so I eventually give in and feed them early.

Sigh, aren't they wonderful!

Loyaultemelie · 18/05/2019 22:20

I forgot another purpose to share my baths (when I used to be able to get upstairs), prowling around the edges until the desired water level is reached and chirruping to make sure I understand no more water will be tolerated. Then sitting on my shoulder/chest until desired temperature is reached and conscientiously dipping each paw in turn to knee height (do cats have knees?) and retiring back to the edge to bat at my toes occasionally.

GoldenKelpie · 18/05/2019 23:31

Loyal good point, my boys supervise me in the bath and sit/walk carefully along the edge, occasionally dipping their tail in the bubbles. They take their job seriously and clearly, after 12 years still do not trust me in the bathroom Grin.

If the slaves drown, who will feed them?
