A cat's purpose is love.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 17/05/2019 01:52

Escaping via my Dyson.

Failing that, leaving floof on any available surface. I swear we’ll be finding her years after she’s gone.

Oi Catmint. I serve a purpose. It’s name is Bob.

They are incredibly bad for our native wildlife in particular our wild bird population

They are not a patch on humans

Much pointlesser than cats

I'm going to use "pointlesser"

Butteredghost · 17/05/2019 02:22

Your dad is right about the predator part, not sure I'd agree that they are more "selfish" than any other animal - they don't think of things that way (that we can tell).

Where they are an introduced species they do have a detrimental effect on the environment, no question about that. But us humans can hardly point fingers on that. Talk about the pot and the kettle.

Mother87 · 17/05/2019 02:23

They're here to make us feel so special when they deign to choose us as house slaves... Definitely less pointlesser than other pointlessier creatures...

Mother87 · 17/05/2019 02:27

WoollyMummoth - I agree - they always 'look' when I leave the house... and 'greet' me when I return (and seem pleased to see me) Which can be significantly more attentive than any of the hoomans I live with even though I know its because they want dreamies or foodBlush

PorpentinaScamander · 17/05/2019 02:33

The point of cats is to make me sneeze and snuffle Sad

Purpleartichoke · 17/05/2019 02:39

They exist to inspire human civilization. Without the cats needing us to build settlements that attracted rodents and insects, the human race might still be roaming.

accendo · 17/05/2019 02:54

I agree with him about the wildlife, our cat is a inside/backyard cat.

I'm a dog person and never had much time for cats...until we got one. I have never spent so much time trying to get an animal to love me. Every head bump/rub he gives is bragged about. Grin I'm still a dog person but cats are lovely.

AsleepAllDay · 17/05/2019 03:48

They teach us to relax

GoldenKelpie · 17/05/2019 04:55

Good question. What then is the point of any animal?

Humans have proved much more detrimental to the planet imo than cats.

I can confirm that my two boys are integral members of our family and very important in enriching our lives and dispatching the local rodent population.

Pic shows my boys on a regular (voluntary) walk with me to the local canal through the woods. No leads necessary.

They are surely existing for dogs to chase away out of gardens :)

Humans add to this issue by insisting on keeping predators as pets and decimating our natural wildlife. As someone who dislikes cats, doesn't like them roaming/pooping in my garden and killing the wildlife then I am inclined to agree with OP's father.

MrsIronfoundersson · 17/05/2019 14:55

Beautiful cats Kelpie! Why were you up so early? Was it done one miaowing at the door or standing on your head?!

MrsIronfoundersson · 17/05/2019 14:55

Grrr someone not done one!

RedForShort · 17/05/2019 15:06

TinklyLittleLaugh: "They are incredibly bad for our native wildlife in particular our wild bird population."

Never seen a cat cutting back hedgerows clearing woodland, or spreading pesticide!!

If you've photographic proof or a video of a cat doing this you should sell it!! You can make loads of money and be able to buy loads of stuff and add to landfill with the packaging!!

Hint: cats and other predators manage to live without being incredibly bad for their prey. Ecosystems are that relationship!

MrsIron, thanks Smile we usually go out at 6am (and sometimes earlier) in the lighter mornings, it's peaceful and too early for dog walkers (my boys can be fiercely protective sometimes and attack rather than run up a tree).

GoldenKelpie · 17/05/2019 16:13

Papergirl ooh he's gorgeous. I love tabbies!

Papergirl1968 · 17/05/2019 17:25

Thanks, GoldenKelpie!

I don't have a cat but my neighbours do and I am very glad they do as it stops the neighborhood being run over with rodents. I feel very lucky that they are happy to pay the insurance/vet bills and food etc to provide such a service.

SnugglySnerd · 17/05/2019 17:33

They are there to sit in judgement of us all.

BuckingFrolics · 17/05/2019 17:45
