Just found a stray kitten - help!!

On the way back from dropping DD1 at school me and some Mums heard a cat crying. A poor little kitten stuck behind a wire fence with what seemed like a cardboard box and a blanket. It was pissing down so we decided to save the kitten. Since I was the only one without a cat or a child with allergies I took kitten back home with me.
So I have fed kitten, tried to contact RSPCA but closed. Now what! Should we have just left it.
It is very friendly and keeping my 10month entertained.

Hi everyone

Finally been able to get back onto the computer. Just to let you all know little kitty was a boy approx 12 weeks old. He was taken in and will be placed up for adoption some time in the future. The RSPCA have given us a reference so I can call later next week to see how the little fella is doing.
Thanks to everyone for their help, contributions and keeping me company while looking after my little guest - I will give an update once I have called if anyone is interested.
