Just found a stray kitten - help!!

On the way back from dropping DD1 at school me and some Mums heard a cat crying. A poor little kitten stuck behind a wire fence with what seemed like a cardboard box and a blanket. It was pissing down so we decided to save the kitten. Since I was the only one without a cat or a child with allergies I took kitten back home with me.
So I have fed kitten, tried to contact RSPCA but closed. Now what! Should we have just left it.
It is very friendly and keeping my 10month entertained.

bellaprincess · 29/06/2007 10:35

the kitten is probably toddler age in humans if that makes any sense
it definately not on the cusp of adulthood.

Oh-had you been in Hampshire I know someone who runs a cat and kitten rescue.

Hmmm-so what are you going to call him/her?

Whoooosh · 29/06/2007 10:37

No! I want it

and I live closer to you!!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 29/06/2007 10:42

I found a stray kitten once on a quiet country lane. Took her home and kept her for 14 years. DD1 was heartbroken when she died - they were special friends (although cat pre-dated DD1 by about 4 years)

bellaprincess · 29/06/2007 10:56

Really sad now - hubby is back and is taking Mishka to the RSPCA rehoming centre as he says we cannot keep her and wants the kitten gone before DD1 get home and gets her hopes up. Feel like I want cry. Silly really I have only had the kitten for less than 2 hours but feel like I am losing the family cat.

Oh Bella, what a shame!

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 11:01

Isn't having a pet a joint decision?

Whoooosh · 29/06/2007 11:01

Oh what a shame...is there no persuading him?

Spider · 29/06/2007 11:02

Don't YOU have some say in the matter?

FlamingTomatoes · 29/06/2007 11:02

don't shoot me but

If you feel like crying, maybe if you did cry your dh would know how much it means to you?

bellaprincess · 29/06/2007 11:03

I am a very cat person and hate to think that someone would just dump the kitten. I just hope she had a lovely time running round my house like a real house cat and that someone lovely will take her/him home and give her/him a wonderful home.
The kitten is very friendly and beautiful so should get a home [crossed fingers]

It was a joint decision but a hard one for me. We dont have the money at the moment to even feed the kitten if we took it on. Plus my DH is not an animal fan. He doesn't hate but they stress him. It would not be fair on him.

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 11:05

What excuse did he say for not keeping the kitty?? Bloody meanie!!

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 11:06

oh such a shame. If i didn't have two cats already, i'd have taken the kitten from you.....

lou33 · 29/06/2007 11:08

where are you?

we found a kitten last summer, we still have him

could be persuaded to take another, do you know if its a boy or a girl?

bellaprincess · 29/06/2007 11:10

Hi lou33

We live in Kent just outside Sevenoaks. But the kitten has gone to

RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre
199 Castle Way
Leybourne
West Malling

just in case anyone wants a kitten that is gorgous and very friendly.

lou33 · 29/06/2007 11:12

ah ok , well as long as its got somewhere to go

newlifenewname · 29/06/2007 11:14

Sad as it is, I think bella and her dH have been very sensible - something I'm not when it comes to cutesy animals!

So who's legging it to the Rescue place to give kitty a home? Lou?

bellaprincess · 29/06/2007 11:17

Funny smell in living room - thought kitten had left me a going away present!! no just my DD2 with a dirty nappy
Poor kitty getting blamed
off to change DD1
