Are all kittens boring?

Siobhan8686 · 27/08/2018 17:44

We got a 8 week old kitten a week ago. He is so boring, all he does is sleep, eat and hide. He will occasionally have a 10 minute moment where he will play but then he goes off in his little house to sleep for hours. Is this how kittens are or do we just have a boring kitty? I thought kittens where playful and loved a fuss?!

'got the cat from a selling site. I went to the ladies house, everything seemed ok. It was the last kitten to go out of 20 kittens lady had 6 cats and im guessing a few got pregnant at the same time.'

Fucking disgusting

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 22:38

I never once said or insinuated i want him to be a puppet or toy, i was asking if it was normal kitten behaviour, i have not had kittens/cats for years and remember them being more playful. I have got him the earliest appointment i could get him at the vets. Thanks for all the helpful comments from people.

Well i didn't know that was the case at the time. I only knew that upon going to view the kitten. I wasnt even intending to take the kitten that day as just wanted to see him and see if me and my children liked him and he liked us. But after seeing his little face we all fell in love and just wanted to bring him home for fuss's and cuddles.

Easy folks. Attacking this lady isn't going to help. Yes she's bought a kitten from a backyard breeder and he's it's awful but she doesn't seem to realize. Maybe just a bit of gentle info rather than jumping on her.

OP the kitten is likely to have not been socialised to people very much if he's come from a commercial operation. He may never be much of a people cat. He's also too young to have left the mum really and his behaviour will likely show it later. He may be ill if this person is simply running a kitten breeding outfit which is why people are urging you to get him to any vet. Just be slow and gentle with him. He will come out of his shell.

I worked in a vets for years and not all the treatment you can get at pets at home is ineffective. Some has to be sold by certain individuals for a reason and stored in the cases as it is stronger than the true off the shelf stuff and vets do sell the same treatments too. They may have stronger stuff as well at the vets but as a temporary or quick fix it is fine.

My two are 13 weeks now and utterly insane. They are ruling the house, in at everything, I’m sure they don’t sleep much I can hear wacky races downstairs holy we speak.

Agree get kitten to the vet asap mine were there at 9 weeks for first jabs and are going every month for worming.

As for the so called breeder, she’s disgusting several pregnant cats? 20 kittens? making money from her pets? 😡 don’t buy a pet like this again.

My kittens mother had been dumped on a farm just about to give birth 😡

People can comment as they see fit. You have taken a kitten from a disreputable greeder (wasn't a typo). You need to get this kitten to a vet ASAP. You must make sure you have insurance or are prepared for big bills. Here's hoping that there aren't any and kitten is just finding his feet.
But this is why advertising animals online should be bloody banned. Sad

Not when it's to insult me!

It takes the lowest type of person to insult someone online when they dont know them. To say the thing ive done is stupid, maybe. But to insult me personally, no thats not right.

Don't believe I have. This kitten needs to see a vet. You must understand that supporting irresponsible breeders isn't a good thing though.

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 23:03

You haven't but other's have.

I didnt know she was a breeder. I didnt know that information at the time. Yh, i understand i could of gone to a rescue centre and rehoused that way but i live in such a bubble i see good in everything it wouldn't even cross my mind that i was going to be buying from a breeder, i dont know what i thought but never thought that.

Several pregnant cats and a load of kittens? And you couldn't work out it was an attempt to exploit the cats to make money? Confused

Ollivander84 · 29/08/2018 23:09

Ok a few tips I picked up with my first cat!

Wet food is important for male cats. Butchers classic is cheap, Lily's kitchen, natures menu, applaws more expensive but good. Have a look on zooplus for offers
Feed the absolute best quality, highest meat content you can afford to but cheap wet food is better than cheap dry food

Zooplus also deliver cat litter which is a godsend!

Get a pets at home rewards card

Insurance. My male cat had a £400 bill this year, Tesco happily paid out

Flea and worm, best stuff and most effective is from the vets, don't touch bob Martin stuff with a barge pole

Try different toys like ribbon, balls with bells in

Get a flat scratch box, cats seem to prefer them. Pets at home do one which is cardboard and has a ball and catnip in

Expect short bursts of energy and then a giant nap!

esk1mo · 29/08/2018 23:17

poor little baby, he’s probably terrified at having loads of new people/children around him. kittens need time to settle in. give him space and time to explore, make sure your children aren’t chasing him around/poking at him when he is hiding.

you really should report whoever you got the kitten from, it sounds disgusting. the cats are probably always pregnant Sad breaks my heart.

when he is settled, you will have to play with him with toys, little balls and dangly toys. he needs to be interacted with.

Frazzled2207 · 29/08/2018 23:20

I hope everything works out for you and your cat but I'm amazed you bought a cat from a kitten breeder clearly exploiting her cats.

Does anyone know if such places can be reported or is it sadly legal?

esk1mo · 29/08/2018 23:26

you could try RSPCA, it definitely sounds like cruelty. or try GCCF.

a quick google tells me there are facebook groups to report bad breeders aswell. name and shame them.
