Are all kittens boring?

We got a 8 week old kitten a week ago. He is so boring, all he does is sleep, eat and hide. He will occasionally have a 10 minute moment where he will play but then he goes off in his little house to sleep for hours. Is this how kittens are or do we just have a boring kitty? I thought kittens where playful and loved a fuss?!

Pop him to the vet this week to be checked out.

But it's most likely normal. What do newborn humans do? Sleep and eat? Give him a couple months and he'll be eating your furniture and pissing on your bed, so don't wish his babyhood away!

picklemepopcorn · 29/08/2018 21:31

So, you paid for him? From a house where multiple cats are bred? Poor dab probably can't imagine why it is so quiet, no cat company...

Please get h8m checked by a vet- he may not have been wormed/ be up to date with vax etc.

Vinorosso74 · 29/08/2018 21:33

Please get him checked out by a vet. Sounds like the woman is running a kitten farm and I don't have anything nice to say about her kind.
Kittens do sleep a lot but are energetic in short bursts-is he doing that?

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 21:37

This is him, (kit) I dont think he's very small, doubt he is younger than 8 weeks. He seems fine and healthy, eats, drinks and uses the little tray. I must just have a really chilled out little kitty.

Why on earth did you take a 7 week old kitten? I despair!
My last rescue was 8 weeks old and he was still far too too young to leave his Mum.
Please get the poor thing checked by a vet then signed over to someone who actually knows what they are doing.

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 21:40

Today actually i have seen a slight playful side to him. So maybe he is coming out his shell slowly. Will defo be getting him checked out at the vets. He wasnt flead or wormed. We've done that ourselves.

How have you flead and wormed a 8 week old kitten without see by a vet?!

Wolfiefan · 29/08/2018 21:41

How have you flea and worm treated if this kitten hasn't seen a vet?
Vet ASAP.

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 21:42

Definitely need two (or more) kittens- they can play, keep each other company, plus fight and bully each other just like little kids! Even now at 6 yr old the younger cat of my two could sleep on a washing line! He gets out of one bed, walks across the floor and sprawls out again. The other one follows me about the house, jumps at her shadow and chases everything in sight. Very nervous though, so wish I could have a combination of the two!

Wolfiefan · 29/08/2018 21:43

That's if you trust the greeder who took your money. I wouldn't.

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 21:44

I went to pets at home and bought the flea and worm treatment for kittens. My vet actually advised me to do so as he couldnt get the cat in till this week and we had him last week.

Our boy is almost 6 months now. We got him at 8 weeks. Initially he was sleepy, cried constantly and hid from us.

By 10-11 weeks he got more curious but would still run away if we made sudden movements or got too loud! We wanted to speed up his interaction so took to eating our meals on the kitchen floor for a week, this brought him out of his shell, he wanted to share our food and would jump on us and eat from our hand...etc.

He got very comfortable and energetic and by 12 weeks would have several hours of ‘kitty bonkers’ every night. He’s canter from one end of the house to the other and was totally mischievous. Like a totally different kitten.

Just stick with it and I’m sure he’ll come out of his shell

Over the counter stuff is ineffective at best and dangerous at worst. Vets. Tomorrow. Poor thing.

brokenharbour · 29/08/2018 21:45

In OP's defence he does look quite big, not a teeny kitten.

He needs to go for his jabs too doesn't he? Definitely before he goes outside.

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 21:46

Oh definitely going to get his jabs before he goes out.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 29/08/2018 21:47

He also needs to be neutered and microchipped. You need to keep him in for some weeks yet.

gamerchick · 29/08/2018 21:48

I can't see a vet advising anyone to buy over the counter flea and worm treatment, the stuff is rubbish.

You bought your animal from someone on the internet who breeds multiple animals for profit, a vet for a health check should have been your first port of call.

Kittens are not for entertainment but I'm sure it'll be climbing the curtains and your legs very soon. They're little buggers.

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 21:51

The vet was my first point of call but we live in a little village and only have one vets and he couldnt get us in until this week. So had no choice but to wait that's why he advised over the counter treatment.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 29/08/2018 21:53

Sorry but you need to get this kitten to a vet. You have been given bad advice. The vet has no idea what state this cat is in or how old. Time for a new vet too.

Vinorosso74 · 29/08/2018 22:16

He doesn't look tiny but I am also bemused why a vet would recommend over the counter flea and worm treatment as they don't work and for such a young cat too.
Wolfie how apt a typo greeder/breeder......
I really despair with the whole selling of animals online.

He was too young to leave Mum and you used a back yard breeder. Kitten needs a vet check ASAP. He's not a toy as you seem to expect him to be but a living animal.

Siobhan8686 · 29/08/2018 22:34

I dont know what the angry face is for?! I was only asking if it was normal for a kitten not to interact with us or want a fuss! He's just different from the other kittens I have had.

OP posts:
Kittykat93 · 29/08/2018 22:35

An animal isn't there for your entertainment, it's an actual living thing. It's not 'boring' it's doing what baby animals do a lot of the time, which is sleep!

Yes to getting him checked asap by a vet. And please don't buy from an irresponsible breeder again.
