Does anyone in/near St Albans have a Springer that might just occasionally need a walk or a cuddle or even a little dog sit?

I so, so love Springers and we left our two dogs in France when I was forced to leave.

No way we could have a dog full time where we are and as a single parent now but I do have quite a bit of time between and after school run and at weekends for doggy walking.

Thanks for reading.

awwwww!!! I really wish I lived in St Albans....(and had a springer) I'd let you come and have a love of it.... Hope you find someone soon

BellaBear · 03/06/2007 20:20

I live in St Albans but only have a cat ... bumping for you!

(not weird, btw)

Have you thought of setting up a dog walking service ? We have a couple round here and they are very busy with walking working people's dogs.

PetPals is a franchise I think - and the other local one is just a one off thing. They must make quite good money too - the one-off place charges about £10 for a doggy walk !

newlifenewname · 03/06/2007 20:22

ludaloo, I'm so sad that I had to stop myself calling up an ad in the newsagent next door re. springer pups for sale and asking if i could just come and see them for a love!

I'd dog walk if i thought it was financially viable. Hmmmm.....

If you;re not doing anything else then surely it must be viable ?

Put an ad up at the Post Office or something - I bet you get takers !

ludaloo · 03/06/2007 20:26

Awwwwwwww that's soooo I'm not really a dog person, but I know how attached you can become to animals, I love my cat to smitherines. I wouldn't go cuddle little puppies though...you might not be able to stop yourself! Do you have a local dogs home...they might need dog walkers or help...they might have springers too?

newlifenewname · 03/06/2007 20:28

Well, it would be viable if it didn't muck up the whole benefit situation.

I am tempted to do a cash job cos God we could do with it but I really, really couldn't in actuality.

My sister dog walks for a rescue other side of the county. Might be a good plan!

Ahh I see - well maybe do voluntary doggy work then ? You need to get some doggy cuddles somehow - I can see that !

ludaloo · 03/06/2007 20:35

How far away is it? (the rescue centre) I bet they would jump at the chance to have someone help them out...it would help you too.

newlifenewname · 03/06/2007 20:41

It's in or near Tring afaik so about 30-45 mins I guess.

I'd do voluntary but if I advertised it might get a bit 'comemrcial' or I may end up with more enquiries than I could cope with and I am bad at saying no!

But, I might actually try a small local ad.

I have a lovely Irish Terrier you can cuddle & walk...but you'll have to fly to Vienna .

ludaloo · 03/06/2007 20:45

hmmm.... you just need a local pooch to have a cuddle with really don't you....have you got a local park? You could maybe see if there are any elderly or stressed looking people who might need a hand walking their springer (grasping at straws a leeetle bit I know...but you never know)...without being stalkerish??

maggymay · 03/06/2007 22:11

could you not try contacting help the aged and see if they have anyone who needs a hand with their dog I am sure there must be some elderly who could do with a voluntary dog walker

sullysmum · 03/06/2007 22:50

What about joining a springer board and see if there are any owners in your area?

alycat · 03/06/2007 22:54

There is a charity called The Cinnamon Trust who held enable elderly/disabled/sick people keep their pets by getting volunteers to walk them regularly - cannot guarantee a springer but you could really help someone out and get some doggy cuddles at the same time!

Had a visit today from a Springer named Ellie. We are looking after her for 10 days in August! Thanks everyone and sullysmum, as it was a result of joining the itsaspringthing forums!
