We're getting a nove scotia duck tolling retriever next week. He's red and has a tiny white start on his chest, white toes and white tip to his tail. He's very cute - I'll post a picture one day when i work out how!
Anyway can't decide from our shortlist so wanted some help please.
Either
Rhubarb (as he's red and like the cartoon dog!)
Copper (again as he's red and I love the Fox & Hound disney story)
or barley which we just like.
What do you all think - or anyone got any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I don't like any of your names, sorry.

I'd call him Red.

LittleB · 16/04/2007 12:38

been told by the breeder and local toller club members names red and rusty are vetoed as too unimaginative !
Need something i can shout out in the local park and dd (aged 1.11) can say too! so fanjo is out! (not literally!)

I like 3 letter names for dogs best - apparently a one syllable name for a dog is recommended (don't know why!)

Twiglett · 16/04/2007 12:41

Beetroot - Beety for short

Grunt

Berkely (geddit? bark-ley) Bark for short

PhoenixGirl · 16/04/2007 12:43

I like Copper

I thought 1 sylable names were not recommended because dogs don't understand words and it could be mixed with 'no'

brimfull · 16/04/2007 12:45

clifford -the big red dog
happy
rover
monty
curly
paddy

BingoStingo · 16/04/2007 12:51

I like Monkey for a dog

LittleB · 16/04/2007 13:01

keep them coming! Will run them past dd and dh this evening - expect dd will like Clifford, although at the moment Pippin is her fav tv dog (can't call him pipin as I had a chinchilla called pippin).

Beauregard · 16/04/2007 22:20

Rusty?
fraggle?
Rooster?

Astrophe · 16/04/2007 22:24

Hmmm, red things...

pepper?

um...noddy? No, noddy is lame. Gosh, I thought I'd be better at this. Pepper then.

DimpledThighs · 16/04/2007 22:27

pepper is really good!

DimpledThighs · 16/04/2007 22:27

we are getting a new cat in a few weeks and we are going to call him "Peter".

VoluptuaGoodshag · 16/04/2007 22:30

Cooroo

You'd have to ask an officionado as to the correct spelling but (cu rhua??) but it is gaelic for 'red dog'

brimfull · 16/04/2007 22:30

Jonty
Randy
santa

nappyaddict · 16/04/2007 22:42

barley

how about tod? that was the other one in fox and the hound wasn't it?

PrincessPeaHead · 16/04/2007 22:45

OOOh I helped name a puppy last week

It is called Bailey

Same sort of sound to Barley. I think it is a good name. Good to call, good to say in a cross voice when he widdles in the kitchen ("Oh Barley, what HAVE you done?"), not poncey, just right

Rhubarb is too tricky to say I think. And Copper sounds like he is a policeman.

nappyaddict · 16/04/2007 22:46

louis
max
sam
buddy
brandy
tally - short for tally ho who was the dog in the book "red dog"

you should use names of more than one syllable. longer names are easier to hear than shorter names.

Beauregard · 16/04/2007 22:46

Saturn?
that will scare the yobs in the park, lol.

Astrophe · 16/04/2007 22:47

Dippledthighs, I will now have to buy a puppy tomorrow so I can use it, unless LittleB does.
