Oh Pixel, bad luck Was thinking about the few of you who where on the look out as I logged on. What do you have at the moment?
Good luck to Butkin with your vetting! On the measuring stick query, I would think it would be the bottom of the slot, much nicer to add an inch anyway that take off if you are wrong!
Hello fortyplus! So good to have friends with horses I bet your autumn will be great!
I've been out this morning on the 6yo, and for saying how windy it was he was brill We even had a bloody loose staffy at our heels at one point and he didn't even flinch, we were in company but as he tends to be a bit spooky I was so impressed Such a good boy!
It would be soooo nice to see pics of all our horses, on our post-natal thread, some of the more competent ladies have set up a Yahoo group, which is password protected, so we can share pictures, would be great if we could get something set up here. Just a thought anyway!

Loshad · 20/03/2007 14:09

would love to share piccies of horses, but need VERY clear/simple instructions

Pixel · 20/03/2007 19:34

Same here, haven't a clue how to put pics on but would love to have a go.

Hi Rodeo, I haven't got my own pony at the moment, having lost my old boy after 23 years its taken me a while to feel ready. However, I have a shetland on loan that my son rides. I'm totally in love with her as she is such an angel with him. I'm sure she understands that he is disabled as she never puts a foot wrong. I also help look after my sister's golden dun welsh D who is a real beauty but a bit lively for me I'm afraid. Actually your name would suit him as he has a huge buck in him!

I'm really disappointed about not getting the mare because I think she would have fitted in beautifully with our family. She's turned up at a field close to ours (snowflake appaloosa so very distinctive) so I will be keeping my ear to the ground in case her new owners get fed up with her!

Bamzooki · 20/03/2007 19:50

Re the Yahoo Group - actually it's not that hard to set one up. I helped set one up a few years ago for the Classical Dressage organisation I belong to. It's really good actually, - means that the members (students all over the world) can talk and discuss with people who understand the methods and approaches used.
If you were all interested I could look and see if the rules have changed much! Essentially, membership has to be approved etc, and only members can post and view messages/pics.
Don't go thinking I am some computer geek mind, I haven't sorted out to do links on here yet , it just was that simple!

Rodeo · 20/03/2007 20:43

Ooh Bamzooki, that would be great! You clever woman!
Pixel, how disappointing for you, must be so difficult to find a new horse after losing one you've had for so long. Your shetland sounds lovely though Some horses just know when to be that bit more careful, wish they were all like that!

Bamzooki · 21/03/2007 20:30

OK, have checked and it is bizarrely simple to set up a group. Yahoo is having problems right now and won't accept new groups just now (but they're working on it....ha).

Propose to call the group MN Horseowners or MN Horsepeople or something unless anyone has any better ideas. Also think it might be best to keep the posts and pics to members only. It is possible to leave the settings so you can view but not post without being a member, but I think it is best to be more private than that. Yes?
When it is done can I post the web address on here (is it allowed?) so those that want can request membership? Either that or you can contact me direct and I can 'invite' you to join.
Any other requests?

Pixel · 21/03/2007 20:54

Sounds great! I would love to be invited but am dubious about my ability to understand it. I was invited to join the special needs Yahoo group which I managed to do but then was completely confused and couldn't for the life of me work out how to read the messages. Everyone else seemed to find it very simple so it's obviously just me .

Rodeo · 21/03/2007 21:55

Bamzooki, good work! Thank you MN Horsepeople sounds great, not technically owning one myself! Private sounds a good idea too.
Pixel, LOL, you and me both! I got messages from one antenatal group that I didn't join but managed to sign up for updates from them! Didn't know who any of them were!

Madoldcatlady · 22/03/2007 14:48

Hello Ladies!

I've been having computer problems for the past week, so haven't been able to post. It's been really hard. Every hour or so I'd think of something to out on here!

DD2 had sent herself 36 emails in a row which the computer had detected as spam being sent out so had frozen our account until further investigation!!

Anyway I'm back now. It would be great to be able to share pics etc. First I will have to learn how to put them on to the computer! I must be the least technical person on here. I can't even do links!

DD1 (12) is rapidly losing interest in her pony. She's had him just over a year and was very enthusiastic to begin with, but she's struggling to give enough attention to her pony and her friends (shopping trips, cinema etc) and her preference seems to be the friends at the moment. I'm really sad as hes a wonderful little fella and at her age I'd have given anything to have a pony, but I suppose they grow up much quicker these days. Boo Hoo. Anyone intersted in a 14.hh coloured cob?

My girlies back is still sore! I had the saddle fitters out last Weds and as soon as the saddle was on she was unhappy. I've got the physio coming to see her next Friday, so fingers crossed she can help her.

manuka · 22/03/2007 16:41

I am VERY JEALOUS of all of you! I always wanted a pony when I was young but never got one. And now I am 'married' I'm still not allowed one!! I hope dd enjoys horses when she's old enough because perhaps 2 nagging females will convince dh to purchase one just to shut us up- not likely though! I would like a pretty palomino named Maurice...

Pixel · 22/03/2007 17:21

Madoldcatlady I would LOVE a coloured cob! We're looking for a nice native type of about 14hh to be a family pony, preferably on loan with a view to future purchase (we've never sold one of ours, kept them all to their old age so want to be sure we've found the one iyswim. Before I ask you a million questions, whereabouts are you? We are on the south coast.

Madoldcatlady · 22/03/2007 18:51

Hi Pixel! We're in West Yorkshire, so rather a long drive to go pony spotting!

Madoldcatlady · 22/03/2007 18:52

I love the idea of a horse called Maurice!!

Bamzooki · 22/03/2007 18:56

OK here goes. The group is called MNHorsepeople. The address is groups.yahoo.com/group/mnhorsepeople or if you go the Yahoo groups home page and search for MNHorsepeople it should take you there too. Click on the blue 'Join this group' box and it should take you to a screen where you can edit your membership details. Eg you can view posts at the site, or have them send as emails to you either individually or as a daily digest.

I have left the membership as open for now - ie people don't need my approval for membership, but that can be changed if needed. If it all gets out of hand or nasty, then I can just delete the group! But we are all grown-ups so hopefully it shouldn't come to that.

All we need now is some members!

manuka · 22/03/2007 18:57

I am in West Yorkshire!!! Oh how tempting to have a patchy horse who perhaps could have his name changed to Maurice! (I think its a perfect name for a horse!) And as I am a short arse that would be a great size for me too!
Damn it! before I met dh and got preggers I had my own business and could easily have afforded a horse but was so knackered from work I didn't do it! typical really isn't it?

manuka · 22/03/2007 18:58

i don't have a horse but used to ride lots and I love them! Can I join??!

Bamzooki · 22/03/2007 19:03

OK think I may have worked out the link thing!
have a look at yahoo group

And yes as far as I am concerned anyone who is interested in chatting about horsey stuff can join. I don't own a horse right now either.....

Pixel · 22/03/2007 19:10

ah, I had my hopes up there.

Right, let's have a go at these instructions. I've read them once and could feel my eyes glazing over....that's usually what happens when dh tries to explain anything computery to me .

Pixel · 22/03/2007 19:27

Looks like I've managed to join but that's as far as I got on my last effort at a Yahoo group. I've just clicked on 'reply' to your message Bamzooki, but it's brought up another version of your message and I can't see where I'm supposed to type anything. I told you I was bad at this technical stuff .

Madoldcatlady · 22/03/2007 19:35

Never mind Pixel. There are plenty more ponies in the sea!

This Yahoo thingy baffles me. I've signed up for something but I've no idea what exactly!

Is there a chat page like we have here? I can't find one if there is. Call me a dim wit!

Bamzooki · 22/03/2007 19:36

Pixel, the previous message should have had >> next to the words - ie it was the message you were replying to and you should be able to type under it. Or you can just delete it all and start from blank.

Bamzooki · 22/03/2007 19:40

Madold - don't think there is live chat in quite the same way, but the point was to be able to share pics ans stuff in a more private way among ourselves.
You managed to post OK though.
Sorry to hear that your mare is still sore. Hope your physio can sort it. Let me know if you want details of a local EMRT person.

Pixel · 22/03/2007 19:44

Ok, I'll try that thanks.

Madoldcatlady · 22/03/2007 19:47

Thanks Bamzooki. While I was computerless I couldn't get back to you for a number, so I had to go with the one the vet offered to me. If I don't get any joy from her I will certainly come back to you.

While you're on the subject, could you explain the difference to me between an EMRT, a physio and a McTimoney person (I have been give numbers if 2 McTinoneys, one didn't have the good manners to return my calls, the other doesn't do call outs). Ta.

theslownorris · 22/03/2007 20:02

I've managed to join! I'm not sure I've got the hang of posting messages though .

Some sad news-dd1's pony was PTS on Monday night. She'd not been well over the w/e and we took her to the vet's to go on a drip. Sadly they found she had peritonitis and started colicking .

(Pics of my ponies are on my profile here BTW)
