Regretting getting a dog

So we've talked for a long time as a family about getting a dog and rehomed a dog a few days ago but I really regret it. He's so lovely and gentle but very demanding and i just don't think I realised what I was getting myself into. I'm home on my own for 12-18 hours a day with a 1 year old while my partner is at work which is hard being so lonely which I thought a dog would help fix but it's just putting more strain and stress on me. My partner loves her so will be gutted if she goes back but he's not home on his own all day with them. Anyone else had this? Thanks

I'm sorry but it doesn't sound like you talked about it for a long time at all. It sounds like your dp has seen a random dog on the internet and brought the poor sod into yet another home it will probably lose and after a few days you have had enough already.

I will be honest, we DID talk about it for years, discuss the breed we wanted, why it would suit our family, look into training etc and I still regretted getting ours, well actually if I am honest I cried and cried for weeks. I had forgotten how hard it was to have a puppy after older dogs.

Combine this with a massive change of circumstances and a nightmare stage of the dog around 18 months and I will be honest I got as far as crying down the phone to a breed rescue.

HOWEVER

We took her on, we agreed to give her a home for up to 20 years and unless there was very serious issues and I had exhausted ever single help method she stays here.
