My sons gold fish has been a bit strange for a while now, he statrted of by doing loop the loops and swimming sideways and stuff looking at deaths door then he perks up and looks fine.

Now he floats about verticaly with his head up wards and barely moves his tail, the other goldfish nudges him everynow and then. The first time I saw this I expected him to be dead the next day but he is still floating about then swims normaly for a bit then sideways for a bit.

Is he at deaths door or is he taking the piss?

SHould I put it out its misery? Or leave him be?

DS will want to bury him so I can't just flush him, what else can I do lift him out the water and leave him to die . DS is getting more and more concerned so I don't want to draw this out too long.

It's the children I feel sorry for, living with fish disease

BlueDaisy · 20/12/2006 21:31

rofl this thread is making me laugh when I should be wrapping presents

PMSL @ RubberFick....

(why am I always about 5 posts behind?!! Slow down, dagnamit!)

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:32

So you've not had a changeling killer tropical eating all the purdy ones?

Skribble · 20/12/2006 21:32

Perhaps a sticker chart for DH, with diagrams showing what a pince actually is. Bonus stickers for when he bothers to clean the filter or change water.

We had a 120L tank - twas blardy lovely.

Started off with a 70L....the Platties kept multiplying and the guppies - well - i hated them in the end. Lemon Tetra live forever it seems and redtail sharks are officially mental.

I decided to change and get amazonian type fishies and so got the Rainbows and Congo Tetras. They were far less sickly than the bog standard neon tetras, guppies and platties, I have to say. We moved house with them too! That was a task!!!!

BlueDaisy · 20/12/2006 21:32

Have had tropical fish keel over for no apparent reason though, usually only a few days after purchase (so can only assume hadn't travelled well)

Rofl was it Easyjet?

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:33

tape the sticker chart to the fish, weigh it down?

(that's a joke ... don't try that at home, children...)

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:33

Don't give me that innocent look, goldy. Sink!

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:33

When you say pince, do you mean pinch? Or are you using fish terminology?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:34

AND they all survived the move too. Every single one.

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:34

120L ... [drool]

Guppies - ah the trick to them is only purchase males They're the only livebearers I have - all the rest are egglayers and no babies yet ... [touch wood emoticon]

MY MIL has killed millions of tetras, BIL left home and she hated cleaning them out, instead of trusting the filter she would still clean the whole thing out every fortnight, swear that she traumatised them as well as doing her back in.

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:35

Bet they floated for a few days afterwards.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:35

PD - are you thinking that Skribbles DH may actually be "pincing" the fish? That would explain it feeling a bit off colour!

ROFL!

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:35

EasyJet - probably The worst culprit was neon tetras - every single one died within a few weeks of each other AND the bodies sank and lost colour so were a bugger to find.

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:36

Yeah, I bet dh hates those cursed fish and is pincing them with long fingernails.

Advice Please - She Loves the Fish More Than Me

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:37

Do you think that MIL has been passing on some of her "fishy tips" to DH?

Skribble · 20/12/2006 21:37

Yes pinch, wondered why it looked wrong .

My dumb fish

Skribble · 20/12/2006 21:38

Perhaps she shouldn't have used jif to clean the glass????

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:38

THats probably not excess food floating on the top - its freshly pinced fish innards!!!

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:39

That picture's all wrong skribble. Fish don't smile. They just look... they just look.

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:40

And say "bob" a lot.
