My sons gold fish has been a bit strange for a while now, he statrted of by doing loop the loops and swimming sideways and stuff looking at deaths door then he perks up and looks fine.

Now he floats about verticaly with his head up wards and barely moves his tail, the other goldfish nudges him everynow and then. The first time I saw this I expected him to be dead the next day but he is still floating about then swims normaly for a bit then sideways for a bit.

Is he at deaths door or is he taking the piss?

SHould I put it out its misery? Or leave him be?

DS will want to bury him so I can't just flush him, what else can I do lift him out the water and leave him to die . DS is getting more and more concerned so I don't want to draw this out too long.

Tip 1

Try hiding vegetables under pebbles to fool the fish...

ROFL!

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:22

DOn't think they would survive out our back gardent hey would freeze or blow away. But they are certainly not spoiled they normally have to rub the glass with there fins to see out.

VVVQV ah but pond goldfish also get diet from plants in the pond and insects etc. Not the same in a home tank

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:23

Cleary - pdog!!!!

I've had a tropical fishtank before now too. That was bootiful it was. Full of rainbow fish and congo tetras....

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:23

Ahhhhh, fishmaster, your wit and intelligence knows no bounds!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:24

Nothing stays put in our garden , in a river valley that acts like a wind tunnel and looks like a tornado most days.

Gwan ... get yerself another tropical tank for Christmas... you know you want to...

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:26

Well at least you didn't exchange the d for an f...

Skribble · 20/12/2006 21:26

If I kill of the Goldfish we are going tropical.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:27

oh no, I couldnt. DS would kill it. Its why we got rid.

When the DC are older, definitely though - still have tank and bits and bobs....

Am picturing poor Goldie being swept away by a gust of wind and cant stop laughing...this thread is bizarre

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:27

Honest, in many ways tropical fish are easier. They certainly poo a lot less...

BlueDaisy · 20/12/2006 21:27

Perhaps he is attention seeking. Have you tried talking to it once a day for say ten minutes?

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:28

Hah! You think tropical are easier than goldfish?

If you fail with goldfish I really wouldn't touch tropical. You think you know about sickness and disease?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:28

ROFL !!!

Took me a few moments - was thinking "rubberfick????"

Skribble....Malibu kinda tropical?

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:28

I've only got a little 30L tank at the moment - as soon as the kids are old enough not to have a playtable taking up most of the lounge, I'm having a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE fireplace-sized tank (haven't told dh yet ....)

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:29

ooo fishyguru (said like Bolan's metalguru - that's why I like it) tropical are easy, you say?

I bow to your greater wisdom

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/12/2006 21:29

Blue Daisy - you arent suggesting a Naughty Step for the goldfish???

"Your behavyor is unasseptible"

pmsl!

poinsettydog · 20/12/2006 21:30

Would a sticker chart work? Taped to side of tank?

Skribble · 20/12/2006 21:30

What is bizare is when I put the blue stuff in and it was so strong I couldn't even see the fish I told DS they were having intensive therapy, but I did change a bit of the water as I guess I must have got the quantities wrong.

SInk, damned fish, sink!!

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 20/12/2006 21:31

Hmm... I've had no incidences of white spot with tropical as yet (higher temps means the life cycle is quicker so I think less likely to catch) whereas every goldfish I've had caught it at one point or another...

Have had tropical fish keel over for no apparent reason though, usually only a few days after purchase (so can only assume hadn't travelled well) - but at least it was quick and there were lots of other similar looking ones in the tank so the dses weren't upset
