vet. now!

cupcakes · 24/11/2005 16:45

you need to phone the vet

WigWamBam · 24/11/2005 16:45

Could be a UTI but call the vets and ask for their advice.

expatinscotland · 24/11/2005 16:45

Get him to a vet. He may have a kidney infection. Also, get him neutered. It's simple. If you are in receipt of housing benefit, the PDSA is an available resource to you.

sparklymieow · 24/11/2005 16:47

thought vet but SIL has borrowed my cat box, what can I take him in without him freaking out.

Will almost certainly be cystitis and easily treated BUT important to get treated as male cats can "block"up and not be able to pass urine-become very ill and can affect kidneys so get treated now.

Sparkly
any cardboard box w/air vents will do in a pinch.

bundle · 24/11/2005 16:53

cystitis. our cat ended up having her kidney out. they can manage fine on one.

sparklymieow · 24/11/2005 16:55

i know last time when he got in a fight with a dog or fox, I had to pay 40 pounds and the PDSA paid the rest, I think it was in total about 100 so they paid the 60 pounds for me.

sparklymieow · 24/11/2005 17:31

thing is I have no idea how long he had had this, so I hope I am not too late

Sorry to hear this my fat male cat had this 2 years back turned out he had uric acid cystals in his bladder that were causing a blockage, ended up costing us £1300

We cancelled out insurance when we moved to London as ours are indoors cats and they wanted to put our premium up because we had moved, would have been £27 a month so I worked out that we had saved money by not paying it (made me feel a little better).

Mine was a London vet though

Vet told me to put cat on special diet to prevent cystals forming it worked out at about £1 a tin and he needed 3 a day also he was gobbling it like mad so put on heaps more weight so we had to take him off it and put him back on diet food. Very told us to watch out for frequent toilet visits in the future.

sparklymieow · 24/11/2005 18:02

he has been to the litter tray I put out for him about 5 times and he is just dribbling a tiny bit. I hope it won't cost that much SK

Yes he eats driedfood, I thought it was better for cats

Well Nemo has FLUTD or in other words, a water infection or cystitis. His bladder is inflamed but not blocked (thank god) He was given 2 injections and the vet said it should settle in a day or 2. Have to make sure he drinks plenty. He did say that it can be a recurancing problem and to watch out for it again. It cost me 42 pounds for all that, but I would have paid a thousand

the vet weighed him and he is 9lb 13oz But the vet said he isn't obese and is just right for his size
