Trigger Warning-Animal cruelty inflicted on wolf in Wyoming

Trigger Warning very distressing story.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13295715/Wyoming-hunter-wolf-tortured-bar-killed-cody-roberts.html

This news story is just so upsetting and disturbing it will never leave me. A man from Daniel, Wyoming called Cody Roberts, reportedly ran down a young wolf on his snowmobile, wrapped duct tape around its muzzle, took it home, tortured it, then when he got bored with that hauled the badly injured animal to The Green River Bar to show off his catch, where, in between drinking beer, he posed for photos with the wolf, grabbing it by the scuff of its neck. Finally, he took the poor animal out the back of the bar and shot him dead. The consequences of his appalling actions? A mere 250 dollar fine from the Game and Fish Department.

This has shocked, disgusted and saddened me to the core. The thought of that poor wolf in a crowded bar, mouth shut tight with tape, bleeding and no doubt in agony, so, so terrified. How can someone treat an an animal this way? How could all those people in the bar, including the owners, just stand by and let it happen? How is it possible that this sadistic, depraved, brutal monster can get away with such cruelty and violence towards a living creature in public with zero repercussions apart from a paltry 250 dollar fine? This man is a danger to society and if he can do this in public, what is he capable of doing in private? Many people are quite rightly disgusted and horrified by this news and there is a petition for a higher penalty which you can find here. Please do sign. Disturbingly Cody Roberts has also had a number of supporters including his piece of shit aunt named Jeanne Ivie-Roberts who thought it'd be really cool to show her support to her nephew by posing for photos with the wolf's skin wrapped her and in one photo her mouth wrapped in duct tape. She must have got a real thrill mocking that poor animal. What does that make her? How do these people's minds work? These people absolutely no place within society and deserve to be locked up and left to rot. I hope there is a place in hell waiting for them.

I’m guessing you’ve missed the news about Gaza lately? And maybe haven’t seen the skeletal children in hospitals in Yemen? Or even read about people in Britain, in their 60s and older, people who once had salaries, facing the prospect of sleeping on the street?

I don’t wish suffering on animals - but your OP is frankly excessive.

Oh well that's ok then Weirdle? Stuff is happening in Gaza, so the OP isn't allowed to be upset about an animal being tortured? No one has said the issues happening in Gaza isn't upsetting, of course it is, but that doesn't mean OP isn't allowed an opinion on something else, how ridiculous!

You know it's possible to care about more than one thing, right?

I'm with you, OP. How utterly disgusting. I hope he burns in hell. What a monster. I really fucking hope one day this piece of shit gets his comeuppance. And that it's really really painful and drawn out.

Angry it's like those people who go on those Big Game Hunts with the aim to kill and be photographed with 5 rare animals , their "trophy"

This story beggars belief how the other people in the bar watched on.

Oh and Weirdle you're like one of those tiresome mitherers who pile onto a thread about some form of animal cruelty and give the Well I'm assuming you're vegan snide .

Just because someone is concerned about this horrific abuse of an animal doesn;t mean they don;t care about what is happening to people .

I shall worry about 34 magnificent horses , some of which will come home lame , injured or dead.
I can also find the space to worry about people .
Is that okay with you ?

@MarjorieStuartBaxter @Motherpro @SorbetMorbet thank you for your support. @Weirdle just because I feel sad about an animal doesn't mean I don't care about human suffering. It is possible to care about both you know! Oh and this forum is a place to go to express your thoughts and feelings without snide remarks like yours.

Like murdering the children in Gaza?
I think it's amazing how we can proclaim such humanity for a wolf (I don't disagree) and be so moved as to put up a post about it but not be moved in the same way but the murder and atrocities going on in Gaza..

Do these lives count too??

No- let's get upset about a wolf. Perhaps we can set up a petition for Wolf Rights?

Stop the Press- a wolf has been killed!!!!

Terrible situation but maybe OP can make herself feel slightly less upset about the ONE wolf and consider other situations where our thoughts and attention may be needed..

There's hundreds of threads already about the atrocities in Gaza. There are also petitions, protests, etc. We actually don't need any more.

We can care about that and this, too. It's not an either or situation.

Don't be a twat.

As I have done. My thought is that of course it’s possible to care about more than one thing at a time. My feeling is that the person inflicting cruelty on an animal is not worthy of such lengthy and detailed posting. But it is all too often apparent that even wild animals are placed higher in the hierarchy than many human beings.

Incidentally, are you posting this on all the other threads that show concern for things other than Gaza?

There's atrocities happening all over the world, all of the time.

And before whoever it was above talking about Gaza, obviously I do recognise that it’s absolutely fucking awful too but they are 2 very different things.

Someone who would torture an animal is far more likely to be cruel to children. It's one of the risk factors for violent men. So yes, we should take animal cruelty seriously. AND because we're adults with fully formed brains, we can also care deeply for the people in Gaza.

Go start yet another thread on Gaza then. Do you make these tiresome posts on every thread that isn’t about something you care about? Just berating people for having the capacity to give a shit about other things?

Thank you @GoodVibesHere for signing the petition. I really hope this can lead to change. If people do nothing then this sort of thing will only continue.

For those saying I'm making a big deal of this, this isn't just about one sadistic individual capturing and torturing an innocent animal. It's about this happening at a public place and other people either encouraging it or allowing it to happen. There was a video of the wolf lying on the floor in the bar, with an electric shock collar round her neck (apparently the wolf was female) and two people talking eagerly about how she was 'going'. I presume they meant dying. In the background you could hear talking and laughing like you would in any bar. This poor animal suffering meant nothing to any of them. What kind of people are they and what example are they setting for children? There's clearly a big problem within that community of people not knowing the difference between right and wrong and lacking any sort of compassion or empathy towards animals if they think its perfectly ok for them to be tortured. This includes those in authority. I've not doubt there are many other communities which are the same or worse. Animal cruelty is a massive problem in the world.

I’ve spent a couple of months in Wyoming. It’s pretty wild and empty and I imagine many people who choose to live there probably value the space and freedom to commit all kinds of creepy shit.

I was there on a perfectly wonderful artists’ retreat where everyone was lovely, of course. Even so, as a Black woman I didn’t feel inclined to wander very far on my own. I’d be more concerned about my own safety than that of a wild animal likely to meet a violent or painful death (roadkill, hunting, extreme weather, predators, starvation) in any case.

(Obviously the perpetrator needs removing from society. They would probably be a danger to me, too.)

It's not just killing a wolf, is it? The wolf was tortured, including publicly.

It's horrible. It's like the lynching death of a defenceless animal. As the criminal justice system has failed to deliver, I hope the natural or poetic justice visited upon that man and everyone in that bar is swift and very, very nasty.

The US as a whole is a very pro hunting. There will be hunters who are more on the 'ethical' side and aim to kill instantly with one clean shot but I bet there are thousands if not millions who enjoy torturing their prey and get away with it because others turn a blind eye. If you enjoy killing animals for a hobby then it isn't much of a stretch to want to start torturing them. American authorities like those in Wyoming generally don't give a shit. Wild animals to them are just vermin and the more that are killed the better. So what if some get tortured in the process?
