Every signature helps get towards achieving 100,000 by the cut-off in April so there will be a Government debate.

100,000 signatures by April really should not be taken for granted as a fait accompli.

Some people maintain that having a Gender Recognition Certificate makes no difference at all to the Equality Act on the grounds that ‘Gender reassignment alone’ is enough for protection under the act.

This is not true.
Sonia Sodha recently explained that her research shows that obtaining a GRC definitely changes the threshold at with women’s sex segregated spaces such as prisons become open to transgender men who have a GRC to say they are women. At this point their crime may also be recorded as a woman’s and disappear from the statistics regarding male criminality.

If you have heard people argue that there is no harm in making it easier to get a gender recognition certificate because it makes no difference to the Equality Act whether a transgender identifying person has one or not….
