If you've got a social media profile and wouldn't mind posting a link to the petition, please feel free :)

Or if you wouldn't mind emailing a link to the petition or WhatsApping/texting/telling your friends/family/contacts about it please, that would be fantastic.

Thank you so much! :)

While I agree with this, didn't Grenfell have sprinklers already installed? They just failed, because the alarm system failed.

Spangles63 · 15/06/2017 17:35

Done.

BrouetteChouette · 15/06/2017 17:39

delilah they didnt install sprinklers in Grenfell Tower because it was apparently the responsibility of the fire service rather than the government.

The Independent has written about it here.

There was no 'building-wide' fire alarm system installed in the Grenfell Tower either, according to the Guardian here.

A fire expert on the BBC was saying they weren't mandatory in England due to some negatives( no idea what). Think I'd like to know a bit more before I sign. Sorry.

MyFavouritePlace · 15/06/2017 17:53

Done! How sad that this is something that needs a petition. I can't stop shaking my head at this!

BrouetteChouette · 15/06/2017 17:56

Fizbo thanks - no worries. I can't find a source for the BBC piece you mention (was it on the website or TV?)

One BBC source I read here said that while fire alarms are likely only to be heard on the floor that the fire starts on, sprinklers should certainly help to contain a fire.

Thank you My. Yes, I totally agree with you. I can't believe it.

I really, really hope we can see some good come out of this, with some serious improvements made to buildings across the UK.

Come on Mumsnet, we can do this!!
