Grenfell Tower petition - please sign!!

Following the fire at Grenfell Tower, Change.org have launched a petition calling for sprinklers to be fitted in all high-rise buildings.

It was an expert interviewed early yesterday evening.

I have signed the petition.

Although I don't think it will need a petition to be honest. I've been listening to radio 5 live a lot to hear the coverage and I reckon it will be a necesity from now on anyway.

Expert on Radio 4 this morning said sprinklers would not have helped as it appears to have spread up the outside of the building.

I think the petition is well meaning but I don't think it's the right thing. I would prefer a petition that requires all recommendations of fire investigators/public inquiry are fully implemented across all relevant buildings.

And parking that doesn't hinder emergency vehicles which was also raised as an issue.

Whilst I agree with this petition too, I've heard lots of experienced fire people on rolling news saying they've literally never seen a fire like this before. It seemed to catch fire on the outside very quickly.

That's make plenty of people think that it must be the new rendering somehow, I'm not sure sprinklers would stop that (although of course they should be fitted as standard I think).

This is why the inquiry is so necessary and I'm so glad it's going to happen.

Absolutely Trampire - I completely agree with you.

Apparently sprinklers are integrated into the substance of the building. Drilling holes into the concrete of buildings to install sprinkler system can render them unsafe.

One of the fastest and cheapest schemes we can introduce are regular fire drills and evacuation practices. They can also save many lives. Yet no one has mentioned them.
