Please can someone confirm this is wrong! There's a wedding company with this name in my town and I'm getting really angry about it 🤬

You use L' when the next word starts with a vowel, like l'orange for instance.

TheOccupier · 16/09/2026 22:52

So wrong.

TheImpOfThePerverse2026 · 16/09/2026 22:55

I know! This is a professional wedding company!

Yep, it's wrong!

lottiegarbanzo · 16/09/2026 22:57

How do you say that? Lch. Becomes Luch, which is not the right vowel.

TheImpOfThePerverse2026 · 16/09/2026 22:59

It's obviously meant to be Le Chateau 🤬🤬🤬

Reminds me of a bridal dress shop in the area where I used to live called “Je Fais” which does mean “I do” in French but you wouldn’t put it like that in your wedding vows.

Some things are lost in translation 😅

Not sufficiently professional to check that the title of their company isn't complete gibberish in the language they've chosen to use to name it.

I also have a question. Every day I run through an estate, there's a house with a sign saying 'The McGrissys'

Should it be The McGrissies ?

You shouldn’t change the spelling of a surname by pluralising it.

Singular ‘McGrissy’. Plural ‘McGrissys’.

Common nouns are different. Pussy, pussies; sissy, sissies. Etc. But proper nouns like names tend to stay intact.

Thank you, that makes sense

Maybe I'll hook up L'Chateau with Le Xpress FFS

😄. We bought from a charity shop when staying at a holiday cottage with no coffee making facilities. Maybe the previous owner had got rid of it in despair.

My life is despair at the moment! 😭

We have a shop near us whose name includes the 'word' 'd'lights' - which in the context of the rest of it, I think is meant to be understood as 'delights'. I shake my head every time I pass it.

I'm also reminded of the restaurant in the film Mickey Blue Eyes: 'The La Trattoria'!

There’s a cake making business in our local area called ‘Le Gateaux Unique’. Drives me mad every time it comes up on our community Facebook page.

The the pavement?

The the restaurant.

Maybe you're thinking of le trottoir?

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 17/09/2026 07:52

Even without the doubled-up definite article, 'The Restaurant' is still a deeply unimaginative name for a restaurant.

It reminds me of the people who give their home a name - go to the point of getting a sign made up and even registering it with the post office - and then they name it 'The Cottage'!

MyOtherProfile · 17/09/2026 08:46

The crazy thing about most of these mistakes is that it would have taken 5 seconds on Google translate to check! That doesn't inspire trust in any other work the business may do.

UnPetitDunPetit · 17/09/2026 08:50

I know someone who often wears a sweatshirt with "Le cafe parisienne" emblazoned across the front 🤦‍♀️
