Spell Michael properly!

I'm so TIRED of seeing Michael Jackson written as Micheal. "Heal' is pronounced 'heel', so obviously it's wrong. If you're unsure, just look it up FFS. (Can't hold it in any more. I've come on here for a therapeutic moan!)

This is the Irish spelling - pronounced Mee-hall

The Irish spelling has a fada though.

Really? I know one and that’s how he says it.
He is from Limerick if that makes a difference.

It doesn’t have anything to do with being from Limerick.
It’s just that nearly all Irish accents pronounce the letter r at all positions in a word. This means your phonetic transcription of the name doesn’t actually sound like the name when read in an Irish accent (though I’m sure it does in your accent).

Just to clarify it is not the Irish spelling of Michael - it’s a totally different Irish name that is pronounced differently. It’s like saying Seamus is the Irish for James. A bit different as they obviously have the same biblical origin but a Mícheal would not answer to the pronunciation of Michael.

It’s not a totally different name though?
Michael and Micheál have the same root.

It’s less obvious from the spelling but so do Séamus and James.
I know a few men who use Séamus day to day, but who are James on their birth certs.

Cool thank you, I’ll tell him

The irony was that the person who kept spelling it as Micheal on the thread about the abuse was a big fan who was passionately defending him. I did think, at least spell his bloody name right if you love him so much.
