Glamourous fabulous secret wedding location possibilities please

have changed my name to protect the guilty, b/c my dp and i are going to sneak off for a secret wedding taking only one couple (good friends) with us for witnesses. we will leave all my family, his parents (he has no other family to speak of) and even our dc at home... and tell no-one till we return. at least this way, we will universally snub everyone so no individual can feel picked on

anyway, we're happy with that part, but what im posting for is to get suggestions of where. italy for eg has fabulous locations and paperwork is easy enough to sort out. france, not a possibility as you need to be resident for 2 months or something...NY a possibility... cheeze-meister beach weddings prob a no-no (like the tropics idea but dont want to be surrounded by indifferent holidaymakers gawping)

i want as glamourous/exciting/adventurous/beautiful/amazing ideas as anyone can muster... money almost no object (!)

so; any ideas??

Casole d'elsa in tuscany!

When we lived there I organised a wedding as we had a restaurant and the couple had the reception there.

Beautiful place. Fly to Florence and hire a car- bout an hour.

Stay in a beautiful agriturismo called Erta which is only 10 mins away.

Voila!

How exciting!!

CarGirl · 10/03/2007 16:38

cuba could be quite basic I should think but def different!

Is there a posh canary Island?

gorgonzolasouffle · 10/03/2007 16:41

sassari · 10/03/2007 18:35

We got married in Florence (through Weddingsabroad.com) now I do love Italy but it was totally amazing .. we have the most amazing wedding pictures .. not cheesy at all ..

Twiglett · 10/03/2007 18:40

here have a look through these and see what takes your fancy

Twiglett · 10/03/2007 18:42

I've been to Cuba (about 9 years ago to be fair) and loved it but really wouldn't suggest getting married there

sassari · 10/03/2007 18:44

thanks twig.

well apart from in the hotels its quite a deprived country with much rationing

we stayed for a week at Hotel Nacional in Havana (fabulous throw-back to the height of the 1950's and Hollywood star memorabilia everywhere) .. and when we went out it was impossible to eat (1 fly infested sandwich in a bar .. a very bad tinned version of heinz spaghetti for pasta and tomato sauce in a restaurant)

the holiday-makers areas are like special not in this country places (like in Africa)

I just don't think its the kind of experience that sits well with weddings .. although I do think its a great country to visit

sassari · 10/03/2007 18:55

fair do's. sounds like v sound advice to me, ta.

I have a friend that went to the Ice Hotel and she said that it is actually really nice on the ice beds, and not at all cold under the covers - just makes you snuggle up more

Skribble · 10/03/2007 23:25

What about Castle Leslie in Ireland or Skibo Castle in Scotland, .

NappiesGalore · 11/03/2007 13:04

are they places where cheezy slebs get married skribble? (the wink says we're supposed to know them...)
