Glamourous fabulous secret wedding location possibilities please

have changed my name to protect the guilty, b/c my dp and i are going to sneak off for a secret wedding taking only one couple (good friends) with us for witnesses. we will leave all my family, his parents (he has no other family to speak of) and even our dc at home... and tell no-one till we return. at least this way, we will universally snub everyone so no individual can feel picked on

anyway, we're happy with that part, but what im posting for is to get suggestions of where. italy for eg has fabulous locations and paperwork is easy enough to sort out. france, not a possibility as you need to be resident for 2 months or something...NY a possibility... cheeze-meister beach weddings prob a no-no (like the tropics idea but dont want to be surrounded by indifferent holidaymakers gawping)

i want as glamourous/exciting/adventurous/beautiful/amazing ideas as anyone can muster... money almost no object (!)

so; any ideas??

If you fancy Italy try www.venicevents.com
British run so fabbo service. They specialise in Venice but do all Italy as well.

Ice hotel in Sweeden (although clearly you would have to wait till next winter). My friend got married there - don;t worry about sleeping on ice...it was very romantic she said!!!!!

what about vagas????

sassari · 11/03/2007 16:03

thats the 3rd suggestion of the ice hotel... makes me consider it more seriously..i'll look into it.

Vegas? no ta. i used to be a croupier and tbh, i think gamblers are the wierdest and yet most boring self absorbed bunch of f*ckwits on the planet. so the world centre of gambling doesnt really appeal. not for my wedding anyway. i suppose i'd like to see the place one day, for curiosity's sake...

A vagas wedding would be tacky...but then that is half the fun!

Or what abotu a safari???? or somewhere like Sri Lanka?

NorksDrift · 11/03/2007 16:11

I was FREEZING in the Ice Hotel-certainly not conducive to lurve IMO!

sassari · 11/03/2007 16:18

ah norksdrift! an honestopinion! thanks, i thought it would be a bit nippy. looks amazing n all...

oh i dont dispute vegas as a 'fun' wedding place... just not for us.

do you think on safari might be a bit ponceycheesemeisterish?

Carnglaze caverns in Cornwall, there is ane an underground lake, beatufully lit and gorgeous fairy gardens for a romantic walk afterwards.

sassari · 11/03/2007 16:56

well that sounds beautiful!

off to research

first impression is that it looks wonderful for a wedding which actually has guests... might feel a bit odd with just the two of us and two friends. a bit sort of sad.
looks like a great setting for more of a 'production' of a wedding.

what the lake? It is small. There are several vennues there, the one in the picture is the rumstore, for 100 people, its why it looks big! The lake has space for MAX 30 people. Although you have to wear a hard hat to get to it (can take it off tho, not so romantic now?!!)

sassari · 11/03/2007 17:11

i dunno. just think i might feel a bit of a plum dressed up in a fancy dress in a cave on our own without even people seeing it...

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 11/03/2007 17:12

LOL, see what you mean! I didnt fancy the hardhat over the tiara, and we are having a few people so getting married in the rumstore...
good luck with your hunting, I hoope you find somewhere romantic/perfect and you have a fantastic time...

sassari · 11/03/2007 17:22

cheers pavlov - and you too! i think that place would be amazing for a bigger wedding - the guests would certainly remember it!

I wouldn't say those venues are tacky far from it, but perhaps the celebs that got married there are a little bit. Although Ashley Judd and Dario Fanchetti are a bit more sofisticated.

Bugger the celebs the venues are both stunning and welcoming.

sassari · 12/03/2007 11:16

ill take a look skribble - thank you - i do want somewhere good for a v v small wedding though. we might feel a pair of tits standing in a great big hall with just two mates standing about

Oooo, this is my kinda thread!

How romantic and exciting!

MrsBadger · 12/03/2007 11:24

oh, you need a private treehouse safari lodge in Africa somewhere, like here .

magicmummy · 12/03/2007 11:32

I got married in Banff (Canada) on New Years Eve at a place called Suprise Corner (it was a surprise too, it was on the edge of a big cliff
Lots of snow and stayed in the Banff Springs Hotel - awesome.
Marriage didn't work out - but hey ho.....

My sister got married in Key West in the Medicine Gardens - very tropical, green and romantic - she only had about half a dozen guests there.

magicmummy · 12/03/2007 11:36

What about on the Orient Express

magicmummy · 12/03/2007 11:39

Or Prague

dejags · 12/03/2007 11:44

What about on Top of Table mountain - looking out on Southern tip of the Cape of Good Hope.

Fabbarooney place, great restaurants. You wouldn't feel sad (for being a small group) or gawped at.

expatinscotland · 12/03/2007 16:32

How about Jersey?

jerseywedding

Only 3 day waiting period!

paulaplumpbottom · 12/03/2007 16:34

Venice

sassari · 12/03/2007 17:45

orient express! blimey. that sounds exciting. still trying to find time to go through website properly.

but noticed through that site that you can do v small but plush weddings in a suite at Le Manoir aux Quatre Saisons. sounds nice and low key but suitably luxurious i think... maybe a bit boring tho...dunno.

as for africa, safari or tabletop mountain... i dont think so. amazing places as they are, i just feel v uncomfortable having a luxurious holiday in developing world locations. have been on one amazing holiday there before but it really did feel awful to be living in such luxury in a place where so mnay live in abject poverty. (not that i dont want to go to places like that again, i just would chjoose to do it in a much humbler, more low key fashion. i think)

jersey and prague interesting...off to have a look...
