The first party I can remember was when I was about seven and we were taken swimming. One of my brothers pushed me into the pool and I landed sitting straight upright on this poor woman's back while she was breast-stroking. She was really nice about it but I was so mortified.

And talking of sick, that brother was the one who got two girls from next door to drink neat Ribena and they threw up pink sick over a whole room. Cream coloured carpet. Puke city.

am amazed anyone can go 30 years without being sick - that's amazing

Califrau - I'll apologise now in case you were ever at a party in Windsor in the 70's!! I never had parties (sob!) and on the few occasions I went to one I think I got so excited that I threw up. I can remember Heather Lane's mum scrubbing my new hand-knitted cardi (that white wool with the multicoloured pastel bits that everything seemed to be made of) while I sniffed and sobbed in the corner of the kitchen. So then as well as not having parties, I wasn't allowed to go to them. I'll just go and slope off to a corner and cry...

I remember my 4th

first party I had was at 5 - best friend managed to fall over and split her head open - cue parents called and friend being taken to hospital for stitches.

there was a face-in-jelly incident when I was 4, but other than that it's a blank till 6 or 7 and jolly games in velvet dresses the church hall.

The point isn't that they remember them forever but that they remember them for the year till the next one...

I can remember my third birthday party.

Then I can remember snippets of other parties but they are all a bit mushed up so I couldn't say which party was which. I can remember parties I went to better than parties I had, for some reason -- and I know that some of the parties I can remember must have been before starting school (based on who was living where when).

I can remember the only good birthday I ever had. My 4th birthday. It was fab.

My kids don't get parties before their 4th birthday - what's the point?
