Okay, this is shirley's party advice part 6. Shirley ducked out a while ago and you'll notice us chatting about all kinds of stuff whilst we wait for party planners to barge in.

So, don't lurk, jump in and chat. We'll give you any advice on parties from costumes to cakes....

I have found some pirate party bags that the kids can colour in from - of all places - ocado.
Ordered the choc coins...ridiculously hard to get hold of anywhere here ATM.
Also got some a4 sheets of yellow paper on its way for he islands.
So....family tea party tomorrow and then pirate party on Sunday...oh and my nephews party on Saturday....phew!

Too late now, but the coop had Christmas chocolate coins (ordinary UK coin ones, not the funky pirate ones someone found)

Oooh badvoc im gonna check out ocado for stuff now thanks for that. I've always managed to get choc coins in home bargains.

Saw this and thought of DW and Blathers, who would both do it so much better than I would, and also how lovely it would be to have time to do that for a party.

Awwww. They're cute.

Thankfully, we should be right in the middle of chocolate coin season when I need some :)

We went to a pirat-y party yesterday. In the party bag were the loveliest little working compasses. They were from ASDA apparently. I picked up some bits from Tesco today - stickers, JatNP plates, cups and napkins, black pirate balloons and red balloons, plastic gold dubloons for sprinkling confetti-style over the food table and a 4 shaped sparkler for the cake as it seemed fitting somehow :)

Oh! I picked up some of those compasses yesterday :)

I may try those mini cake biscuits for the next PTA cake stall. That'd trump a scrambled egg lemon drizzle wouldnt it lol.

Im sulking now because you're all moving on with your parties and my dad hasn't sent my artwork back yet. Does he not realise i need to get sorted!!!

I still want to do marshmallow teacups for a cake stall but opportunities are few and far between at DC's school.

I went to the PTA yesterday to see what its about. Oh. My.

Tell tell tell. Is it a Marmalade-worthy cliquey PTA? There is no such thing at DC's school - instead they have their own branch of the WI Hmm, which meets during school hours, thereby neatly excluding all WOHMs

Funny you say that. No nothing of the Twatters magnitude but i was ASKED to attend, no letters, expressions of interest etc gone out. So i went along, it was six mums from the village and they pretty much just tipped each other the nod as to who was doing what, when and no discussion.

More than that it was the AGM and they all voted/seconded each other in and the corporate animal in me was raging because they booked in all the events they did last year again and when i questioned were they profitable it was met with no. They revealed that there was 2,500 in the pot of which it costs nearly 1500 to pay for all the kids to go to the panto. The last event they ran raised 60 quid but they booked it in again.

I cant go again. The business woman in me wanted to club them to death screaming what about the Bottom Line. And dont say why didnt i, because it was VERY clear its us six that makes the rules.

Probably wise. Waste of time and energy to get involved with people like that.

I got cheapy IKEA sheets!

I wouldn't want to sleep on them but they'll make perfect sails Grin

I'm about the join the PTA for DS's school. I was avoiding it as I know I'll get collared for every face painting job going as soon as they know but someone dobbed me in after I painted DS as spiderman for a party and I ended up facepainting at the summer fair so there's no point in hiding any more. Thankfully ours doesn't appear to be quite as stepford as DW's

Wrt party invites....when do you assume people aren't coming? Still waiting to hear from 4 people.
Do I just assume they aren't coming or chase up?
Have no idea on the etiquette here!
Good news about the sheets blathers...they will look ace.
Well...treasure filled with choc and sweets for pass the treasure chest.
Yellow paper bought for pirate islands.
Pin the Eye patch game arrived.
We are also going to play a version of duck duck goose called pirate pirate shark (ds2s idea!)
I am also setting up a colouring table for first thing as I got them all colour your own pirate party bags from ocado.
Is there anything else I need other than food and music?

Blatherskite · 26/09/2013 13:57

I would assume they are coming to be honest. I only assume no shows for actually refusals, it's safest.

I love the idea of pirate, pirate, shark - well done mini Bad :)

Sounds like you've got it all under control
