Okay, this is shirley's party advice part 6. Shirley ducked out a while ago and you'll notice us chatting about all kinds of stuff whilst we wait for party planners to barge in.

So, don't lurk, jump in and chat. We'll give you any advice on parties from costumes to cakes....

Ikea are dirt cheap for sheets blather.
I got the little flags from amazon.

nobiggy · 20/09/2013 15:14

Quick question - getting pizzas delivered for dd's gym party - how many slices each should I get? Kids are mainly 6-7.

Badvoc · 20/09/2013 15:19

From experience, I'd say 2 each.
They are usually too keyed up to eat :)

nobiggy · 20/09/2013 15:21

Ok, was wavering between 2 and 3.

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 15:21

My 6yo (almost 7!) will eat 3 or 4 slices but I think most of her friends would eat less.

Blatherskite · 20/09/2013 15:41

My 6.4 year old (and my 3 year old for that matter) would quite happily demolish 3 or 4 slices each!

I'd go for three each. There will be some hoover children to clear up whatever the party-crazed ones miss :)

Any excuse for a trip to IKEA Bodvoc Grin

Badvoc · 20/09/2013 15:42

Exactly :)
Stock up on marshmallows tea lights

Blatherskite · 20/09/2013 15:43

You weren't wrong Badvoc!

£1.50 for a fitted sheet!!

Blatherskite · 20/09/2013 15:44

90cms x 200cms!

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 16:29

That's impressive. I assume you have an IKEA nearby Envy?

Blatherskite · 20/09/2013 16:42

Yes Grin

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 17:01

Blathers does DS need this

Badvoc · 20/09/2013 17:04

Told ya :)
They aren't thick or very high quality (obv) but would work fine for a ships sail :)
You could even cut out strips of felt material and sew them or use fabric glue to stick them on.

Badvoc · 20/09/2013 17:05

I am thinking of having a craft table too for colouring - will print some private colouring sheets off the web. Possibly also playdoh?
Too much?

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 17:07

Yes to colouring. No to playdoh unless you would particularly enjoy scraping it back off the hall floor before you leave Wink

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 17:09

Colouring is always a good option for those who are not "joiners" - there are always a couple in each class.

Having said that, anyone who doesn't want to join in playing with clay will have nothing to do at DD's party - it's not like they weren't warned - the clue is in the invitation to a pottery party.

Badvoc · 20/09/2013 17:14

Ha, yes you are right.
Colouring in it is then.

Blatherskite · 20/09/2013 17:15

Colouring - absolutely. It's a fab activity to keep them all interested while you wait for the others to arrive.

Playdoh - No. As Stealth says, it will get everywhere.

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 17:32

Ok - crucial question. The 'print' in the clay invitations is in (more or less) Courier font. I need to put a note to parents on the back. Do I print it in Courier cos it matches, or some other font because only people who don't use computers choose Courier?

jetstar · 20/09/2013 18:06

Loving the pirate ideas! One more I saw recently a la musical chairs. One pirate island (sheet of wrapping paper) children dance round island and when music stops must jump on island. Each time, tear off a piece of paper so that the island gets smaller!

Font - is it going to be on paper?

Blatherskite · 20/09/2013 18:34

I'd do Courier and pretend like it's artistic :)

I love the pirate island idea but wondering if it's a bit potentially upsetting for 6 3 and 4 year old girls?

Badvoc · 20/09/2013 19:07

I have just ordered some sheets of pirate wrapping paper to so the musical pirate island game!
I will take them together and then cut sections off as the music plays...that should work, yes?
Or fold it back?
I will need prizes for the game winners won't I?

Tinkerisdead · 20/09/2013 19:10

Girls would be fine with that island idea i reckon.

Go with courier font stealth - continuity.

Fab news on the bargain sheet.

Thanks for the reassurance on the burns victim. In our old house that was an old victorian villa and that had plenty of spooky goings on but theres something grim about burning alive in the kitchen. I was so excited at the new pristine kitchen with the stickers still on the oven.

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 19:54

Thank God for that - I went ahead with courier Grin

stealthsquiggle · 20/09/2013 20:56

I also really appreciate, BTW, that you all took that question seriously Grin

Games - I don't bother with prizes, really. Stickers which they get when they are out are useful for keeping track of who is supposed to be still playing, as they will all carry on anyway Hmm
