New thread :) Everyone welcome.

She'd better be!! DH saw the body the other day and he was impressed at least. The wings look good now they have the lines on.

I took it slow* and had the foot lifted for bits as the thickness of fabric was stopping it moving at all but at least it's done now.

  • it didn't actually take me an hour and a half to do the 2nd wing, I had to pick up DD from preschool and get my blood test done in between. I'm slow, but not that slow :)
BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 13/12/2012 16:19

Tip for today. Children's medicine syringes are the perfect tool for filling the stems of plastic wineglasses with jelly-fied water precisely and without getting splashes all down the side of the glass.

It'll come in handy on a daily basis that one I'm sure Wink

stealthsquiggle · 13/12/2012 16:50

I believe I may have suggested that particular genius solution.

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 13/12/2012 17:46

Did you? Damnit, I thought I was being clever. In any event, I had forgotten you said it and came up with it all over again all by myself :)

Tip 2 is - you must wait about an hour for the jelly to part set before it's worth putting the edible glitter in else it all just sinks to the bottom.

I'm going to make the jellies over the course of tomorrow I think. I've got 5 lots of setting to wait for!

I also need to make the cake tomorrow

and Marzipan and ice my Mum's Christmas cake

and tidy up!

I think Dolly might definitely be on the scrap heap Sad

Tinkerisdead · 13/12/2012 17:59

Poor dolly Sad

Nevermind im keen to see it all come together. We're all just getting ready for bed then a drive to see the christmas lights with Chrimble the family elf! Hoping dd2 sleeps cos shes cried all day.

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 13/12/2012 18:18

Cake marzipanned. Hopefully, it'll have dried out enough to ice tomorrow.

stealthsquiggle · 13/12/2012 20:17

By tomorrow morning I will have marzipanned, iced and decorated 8 mini Christmas cakes. Oh, and wrapped them. At this point I have 5 iced, 2 more marzipanned and none decorated.

Tinkerisdead · 13/12/2012 22:15

Whats the theme of them this year stealth?

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 13/12/2012 22:20

Have realised that a trip to Costco (and DD) are going to disturb my cake/jelly making plans tomorrow.

stealthsquiggle · 14/12/2012 00:37

Very un originally, snowmen. They're done. Not wrapped, but I will do that (and post photos) in the morning.

stealthsquiggle · 14/12/2012 10:39

Just keep remembering the jelly, Blathers.

Snowmen cakes are on flickr (well, their photos are. They have been delivered to teachers)

Tinkerisdead · 14/12/2012 12:26

I love those snowmen!! Dd has just made a load if fairy cakes so i may see if she wants to make snowmen for them.

Playschool got them all to make and decorate an xmas cake. Then wrap it. Dd is all sad saying this isnt the cake i made you, mine had a snowman but there was a mix up at school. So this is no good as its not mine. I told her it didnt matter but she was so sad. So ive let her go mad with a fairy cake kit. Argghh.

Blathers whats the progress? !

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 14/12/2012 12:54

I have cleaned the lounge carpet!

Next step is the Yellow jelly layer and the first double batch of cake mix which should do the first 3 sponges

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 14/12/2012 13:05

I've also been to Costco and have all the food except the grapes which DH is picking up on his way home.

and the shower curtain and bath mats are just finishing in the washing machine

Tinkerisdead · 14/12/2012 13:52

Wtf you got all this party stuff and you're spring cleaning?

stealthsquiggle · 14/12/2012 13:55

I love the combined party and house panic. I can empathise.

Tinkerisdead · 14/12/2012 14:21

Honestly the shower curtain?!

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 14/12/2012 16:00

Yes, Mum, Sister, BIL, 2 nieces, other sister, brother and brothers girlfriend will all be here as well as the party! This place is a tip.

Washing the shower curtain makes the rest of the bathroom smell fresh. It's a good cheat Wink

Tinkerisdead · 14/12/2012 18:29

Ahhh i like your thinking!

barefootcook · 14/12/2012 20:09

We are having a pirate party for DS(4). He has 3 girls coming to the party. How do I make the theme appealing to girls as well as the boys?

Tinkerisdead · 15/12/2012 02:45

Hi barefoot. Dont panic we've had this discussion many a time. Girls relush the chance to dress up too. Dont try to make it girly, make it fun and girls will have a great time still.

Costumes, consider providing foam/card swords, bandanas, eye atches so that everyone is in the theme. You can use them for partybags.

Food, themed food such as jelly orange boats, shark infested jelly, hold coins etc all add to the theme.

Games, walk the plank, treasure hunts etc. we did quite a bit on pirate parties earlier in our ramblings. I'll find it tomorrow for you as there was a good party we linked to too for unisex ideas.

Tinkerisdead · 15/12/2012 02:46

Ffs. Im awake coughing. Ignore typos.

Tinkerisdead · 15/12/2012 03:03

page 7 on here

Tinkerisdead · 15/12/2012 03:09

page 40 and work backwards on this one

stealthsquiggle · 15/12/2012 11:13

Just leave the pirates as it is - there are loads of cool girl pirates (The Night Pirates is a favourite here, with it's "rough, tough little girl pirates"). I am trying to think of any way in which I would modify a pirate party to be gender neutral, and I can't think of anything Grin
