How much weight did you put on during pregnancy....

I am just interested to know...
If you have had subsequent pregnancies did you roughly put on the same amount of weight.

I have had 2 children and both times balloned and really struggled (still struggling) to lose the weight. My youngest is 13 months.

I am really considering number 3 but dint want to be huge again afterwards (size22+).. I wouldn't say that I ate any different during og than I do normally. I eat healthily etc..

Do you think our bodies are programmed so to say and will no matter what retain the weight , gain as soon as we find out pg etc... or do you think it is yourselve who controlls this...

Hope this makes sense..

Don't worry about it, i wa probably being Mrs Paranoid when I changed my name.

Post below.............

I have changed my name for this.

I know my posting style is fairly distinctive, but please do not blow my cover.

This is kind of related.

A few years ago I was working at a company in Woking and I worked with this man. Here

The company I worked for supplied labourers for railway engineering works, it very quickly be came apparent that nearly all the attacks happened at places that had train stations.

I rang the police, and said nothing to anyone except DH.

Turned out several colleagues made the same connection, and several of us made the same annonymous call.

As a result a very dangerous man is behind bars for good.

We didn't know he worked for us, that was a bit of a sickener.

But I would lose no time in having a chat with the police about this guy.

MrsATeam · 23/07/2005 01:18

MrsGordonRamsey...hopefully he is still beind bars eh?! Sorry tho...must have been horrible......

I put on 3 stone with both pregnancies and lost it all after each pregnancy.

Ragtaggle · 23/07/2005 18:24

Put on four stone first time. Breastfed and went to weight watchers and had lost it within ten months. This time - am 31 weeks pg now - have put on two and a half stone so far.

morningpaper · 23/07/2005 18:36

I am pg with no. 2 putting on the same weight as I did first time - and I am eating MUCH more healthily, am still exercising and don't have anything like the same appetite as before - SO I think I agree that your body might just be programmed to put on the weight and you don't have a great deal of control over it.

Thanks all for your responses,

Morningpaper- I totally agree..

I am still going to try for number three though. I will just have to go on a strict diet afterwards.....

Think i am going to leave it till next year though just because
idealy I don't want db3 bday to be to near dd and ds, and as we live in cyprus only wnat to be early stages of pg next xummer so the heat doesnt affect me to much.

SO I think next april, may time, my husband may become luckyman again......

So glad there are some normal people on here!
I put on about 3-3 1/2 stones, and about 3 dress sizes.
I didn't have chance to lose the weight, as I am now pg with no2. I'm trying hard not to eat too much and keep active, but it's hard with an 11 month old, a p/t job and a house to look after. I just wanna SLEEP all the time!

Any tips on weight loss post pg wouldn't go a miss!

moozoboozo · 24/07/2005 10:19

I only put 1/2 stone on (after baby - didnt weigh myself during pg) but I was naerly 4 stone over weight to start with (now more like 5 )

coldtea · 24/07/2005 10:55

I put 4 stone on with my 1st & 1 stone 12lb with my 2nd. I went to the gym throughout my pregnancy with my 2nd as i was scared i would put on the same amount again!

highlander · 24/07/2005 11:19

I personally think it up to the individual. I know loads of people who find out they're pregnant and it's like a green light to sit about and eat rubbish. Pregnancy is a time to eat healthily - there's a new life inside! You only need an extra 300 calories/day in the last few weeks of pregnancy - that's 3 apples or a bar of chocolate.

SofiaAmes · 24/07/2005 14:25

I think a lot of it's hormonal. I was ravenous within days of conception (didn't realize I was pregnant as had been told that dh had no sperm). I couldn't stop eating (healthy only) throughout the pregnancy. I even threw up 5 times a day for the first 4 months of both pregnancies and still gained 3 stone each time. I didn't have to diet afterwards, it just came off. Who has time to eat with 2 kids!

Miaou · 24/07/2005 15:14

I was 8 and half stone when I got pg this time, am now 11 stone (!) at 39 weeks pg. With dd1 I was 7 and a half stone when I got pg and 10 and a half stone when I gave birth. So although I started off heavier this time I actually put on less weight. Most of it seems to be fluid though, I find I lose most of the extra weight within a week.

HOWEVER I am one of these people who doesn't put on weight easily, I have crept up a stone over about 10 years (and much prefer it that way, I was too thin) but have never had to diet or watch what I eat (I do eat pretty healthily though).

I would guess luckylady that it has a lot to do with your metabolism - ie if you find it an effort to keep your weight on an even keel when you are not pg, then the same will apply when you are pg (and vice versa, as in my case).

expatinscotland · 24/07/2005 15:29

I put on 4 stone w/my first. I was incredibly swollen and had hypertension. A large amount of it was water weight, b/c I was back to my pre-prenancy weight a fortnight later.

This time, I haven't put on much at all. I'm nearly 19 weeks along and have put on about 6lbs.

juicychops · 24/07/2005 15:41

i put on bout 1 1/2 stone and was back to normal weight 3 months later so i was lucky

Turtle35 · 25/07/2005 13:31

I gained 5 stone and am still struggling to get rid of it 9 months later. I ate like a pig and I think it was my own fault for getting so huge, I have two stone to loose still and am going to the gym 4 times a week now so hopefully will get rid of these extra pounds in a couple of months. I will be so careful next time.

motherinferior · 25/07/2005 13:43

Stone and a half first time, which took ages to go; a stone second time, which went pretty well straightaway.

So I would say no, differs each time.

Tinker · 25/07/2005 13:44

About a stone each time. Back into jeans both times within a fortnight. But still flabby. Nice.

sandyballs · 25/07/2005 13:46

I went from 11.5 to 14 stone when pregnant with my twins. Back to normal weight within a couple of weeks and didn't breast feed. Just didn't have time to eat . Up to 12 now though .

Lizzylou · 25/07/2005 13:47

4 1/2 stones, took about 9mths to lose it...now a completely different shape to what I was before, although same weight...
Hopefully with this one will be able to stem my urges for cake and cheddar cheese topped pasta and be a little lighter!

WigWamBam · 25/07/2005 13:47

I lost 2 stone in the first 8 months due to hyperemesis, then put on about 8lb in the final week or so of the pregnancy because of pre-eclampsia.

sweetkitty · 25/07/2005 13:48

I put on 2 stone, lost it within 8 weeks after then another stone on top of that . Put it down to not being at work therefore grazing at desk constantly also BFing. Didn't watch what I was eating or go to the gym as I previously did, just ate when I was hungry.

This time have gained 4lbs so far (15weeks) but appetite has been zero although it's starting to pick up and will no doubt come back with a vengance!

bee3 · 25/07/2005 13:58

I went from 9.5 stone to just over 13 stone (so gained about 3.5 stone).

I tried dieting it away for the first 6 months, but it just made me depressed, so just started to try and eat sensibly. I've been loosing bits here and there gradually, and I'm now just under 9.5, but ds is 17 months old so it's taken a while.

I know that some of the weight gain (probably at least a stone) was simply me eating too many biscuits and cakes. If I have another baby the one thing I'll definitely do differently (if I can) is not pig out so much during the pregnancy.
