I just want to say to all the single parents on MN...

you are incredible and deserve huge amounts of praise, money, booze and chocolate.

DH has been away on a trip for just one night. He gets back tonight, after DS is in bed.

Just over 24 hours alone with DS and I am ready to drop. And my DS is a very easy baby, sleeps well, eats well, likes to play in his bouncy chair or on his playmat (he's 5.5 months, BTW). And yet I am exhausted from being his only care giver for just about a day and a half.

So many many kudos to all your single parents. I have no idea how you do this day in and day out.

i'm on my own with 5 dc....and just got back from parents evening feeling thoroughly miserable that it was all mums and dads....and then me and one other lone parent!

Takes a bow also but excepts it all The only time i have found it hard being a single parent was when ds2 was just born with it being just the three of us but we have adapted to it very quickly and on the upside i get ALL the cuddles and kisses and love ds2 is 3 months btw and ds1 is 3.7 so many many cuddles

You get an amount of booze and chocolate equal to the number of children! But even a single parent with one child gets tons and tons of both! Unless they don't want it like mankymummymoo.

I only manage it day in, day out thanks to my lovely lovely family who live close by, and even then I tend to swear under my breath a lot .

My other half and I were saying that exact same thing a couple of days ago, even the simplest of tasks must be a nightmare when you are on your own. My 11 week old is surgically attached to me all day and other half works from home so at least he can take her when I need a shower, pee, cup of tea, something to eat...round of applause to all the single parents xxxx

ilovetiffany, i must be a real old realist cynic, i never envy people just because they're part of a couple. I think about 30% of them are fucking miserable and haven't got around to splitting up yet, or, they're too scared to split up. The other 30% probably content enough, same as they'd be single. Maybe they'd be happier with somebody else, or in some other life.

I reckon about 30% of married couples (who have children my children's ages) are genuinely happy, and happy to be together and with eachother.

I really value my freedom. I don't do anything with it! but i value it..

exactly, the alternative can be so much worse. My XP barely lifted a finger, frittered all his money away and gave me loads of abuse and threats. It might be hard work on my own but the house is happier now.
