Who starts nursing/midwifery in September?

I am in the very final stages of my application. Just filled out my CRB form thingy, have my MMR tomorrow for the health and must sort out my accommodation! Phew! Going to uni is such a big hassle!

How is everyone else doing? I m getting excited and a bit nervous.

ive decided to start midwifery next year! I was planning to start this year but ds is only 14m and im just going to try and get some money behind me and pass my driving test first!!!

I start child nursinfg in sept I'm so excited. Ive sent off crb check haven't heard anything back yet and waiting for health check. I found out yesterday I ve passed access course exams!!!!!! and passed the course!!!!!!

Have filledin the forms for student loans and grants just need to send off prof of identity so will hopefully get them on time for beginning of course.

Its nice to know that there are others starting the same time as me

I am. Excited and nervous in equal measure. Wondering how childcare is going to work out, how I'll manage the shifts, how I'll write the essays. Hoping I won't drop anyone's baby. Still waiting for my CRB to clear, need my last Hep B jab, haven't had anything from bursary people yet.

And can't shake the feeling that it's all going to go horribly wrong between here and Sept 19th Good luck everyone!

I'm supposed to start midwifery in September as well with a new baby in tow. I'm going to give it a real go and see how it turns out with juggling full time course, placements and baby.

Where is everyone going to be starting? I'll be at Middlesex University.

SweetFudge I'll be starting at University of Teesside
was tempted by York but it's not realistic to commute from here to there and look after two toddlers....I would never see them hardly.

I'm with you there SS a letter confirming start date and various other things that you need for your first few days.

MC what year will you be starting in?

Starlover I would get in touch with the uni again!

I'm nervous about fitting in and the childcare

SM, I'm worried about childcare and fitting in too. I think there will be a fair number of mature students on the midwifery course so probably other students with kids and that will be useful re. their experiences.

Have you got all your childcare in place yet? Are you using a childminder or nursery? I've got a list of childminders to interview in the next few weeks.

I hope we all keep in touch after the semester begins.

no i got the application form i just didnt send it off.. this was last year! can someone give info? somebody told me u needed to have good a level results i got a b d d? and 10 a-c passes at gcse 4 being a's. or is it just 5 gcses being c's in english maths and science?

Your qualifications would probably be fine for diploma, loulabelle, not so sure about degree. Best thing to do is ring the unis you want to apply to and ask them, because they will all say different things. They like you to have had recent study too (within last 3 years usually).

Sweetfudge, childcare has been an absolute pain, I even moved my ds1 school were there were more childminders all of which were keen when interviewed but when asked they declined minding my children saying that they had too much on already or that they couldn't do pik ups or drop offs

The school we moved him too is completely better than his previous one so were not disapointed.

The only other alternative is a nursery pick up and drop off service....which I'vce heard good things about. They are changing premises late july so have asked that I visit when they are in their mew premises. So although I don't have anything at the moment I'm hoping to have something soon. Thinking about it I'm going to put my ds's name down provisionally with them so I at least know they have places.

Chloeb2002...not sure what my home trust is yet, I'm really looking forward to it!

Has anyone heard anything about the bursaries yet?
I've applied for the loan and grants just need to send off details now.
Just think theres only 2+ months to go

If your past a certain age i think 24/25 you could get on the course easy peasy as a 'mature student' if your a young-un you need about 5 GCSE's or equilivent, A-C grades. or 2 A levels A-C grades also or equilivent.

(I started the course in Oct 03.)

ScrewballMuppet, how absolutely crap to have gone through the trouble of intervewing childminders and then to have them change their minds when asked! I would be fuming too. Last thing you need is to be mucked about when you have children and an upcoming course to try and juggle!!!!!! I'll be interviewing childminders soon so fingers crossed.

Let me know how it goes with the nursery places. Must say yours sounds much more promising and great that they actually do pick ups and drop offs.

As far as bursaries go, Middlesex have said that they fill up the forms for us. Sounds odd but that what was the administrator said when I called a couple of weeks ago to enquire. So, we'll have to see if she was right. Not received any forms anyway.

Ooooh, bursary form arrived today! More paperwork. Have also heard that my CRB check has gone through okay (so obviously my years as a runner for all those Columbian druglords passed them by).

So, yet more photocopies of my birth certificate, and try to find some way of proving that dh and I are actually separated and I'm not trying to get that ENORMOUS extra wodge of cash by fraudulent means

It suddenly seems a lot more real...

I've received the bursary forms and OMWord!!! what a nightmare. I've already had to ring up and ask for a new childcare form. Aghhhhhhhhh!!!!

Am going this week sweetfudge to meet the staff of the nursery, hopefully they'll be lovely especially since have just been informed there prices have gone up and they don't provide meals

Hi SM, missed this earlier! Forms are a nightmare aren't they? I've got to get a solicitor's letter proving h and I are separated which is going to be a pain. Plus trying to get ds's nursery to sign all the forms even though he doesn't even start there for another month and a half! At this rate I may get some money by about August 2007...

On a brighter note, met up today with a couple of people who will be on my course, had a lovely lunch and a good chat about it all. So there will be a couple of familiar faces come September and it's all getting very close

Safu thats great about meeting some people you wil be studying with. I attended an access course before applying so some friends will be going on to same uni nursing, physio and radiography so will no faces about and apparently will have some classes together though I'm the only one doing child nursing so a little bit nervous about fitting in again. I also work for the BNA agency as a healthcare assistant and have met people who are going to be going to same uni but again no one doing my course. I just can't believe it's not far away
SallyStrawberry have you received your bursary forms yet? I rang them up and it isn't likely that I'll beable to get childcare help either although I miss it by a smigen so I'll apply anyway you never know.

I go for my medical in about an hour wish me luck

Hi everyone,

I've got those bursary forms to fill in too and they've not enclosed the childcare leaflet - So have had to trawl the website to see if I qualify for some childcare help with expenses.

DH and I interviewed some childminders a few days ago and the one I liked a lot charges £4.50 an hour and for us, that works out at more than £10,000.00 a year. Which is more than what I'd on the non means tested bursary and the original plan had been to try and cover childcare from the bursary. Very depressing to know!

Also, important question, does anyone know if we work for most of the semester vacation periods as well? So far, the info I have is that we get 7 weeks off in a year.

Anyone know if that is the case?
