I am in the very final stages of my application. Just filled out my CRB form thingy, have my MMR tomorrow for the health and must sort out my accommodation! Phew! Going to uni is such a big hassle!

How is everyone else doing? I m getting excited and a bit nervous.

also be aware that even though they say you probably won't be expected to work nights in your first year you may be asked as it all depends ont the shifts that the mentor that you are assigned to works.

i ended up on call on night on my first placemnt 8 weeks into my training and we got called out to a homebirth at 2 in the morning and had to stay until 10a.m. it was alovely first birth to witness, but the timing could have been better!

forgot to say after all those messages on a bit of a negative point (mine no-one elses!) it is worthwhile and these careers aren't soemthing that you just do because you can't think of anything else to do, you do them as a vocation it is hard to get onto the courses and so makes it all the more worthwhile when you are there.

started midwifery training 5 years ago, but due to various reasons had to stop,
really want to go back to it, think i would cope better doing it part time, can i do this? anyone know, who do i contact, i am in milton keynes, thanks

If it makes you feel any better, I'll be 35 when (if!) I qualify, and there are several on my course that are older. The average age of a student midwife is apparently 29, so you've got tons of time...

vickiyumyum · 23/09/2005 19:16

happymumof2 - i'll be 30 too when i qualify and i am probably in the mid range of ages in our group. most are 20 somethings with a few 19yo and quite a few 30 something plus a couple about 45! so 30 is positvley young!

HMO2 I'll be 30 when I qualify too

Sanchpanch give your local university a ring they'll beable to let you know if they offer part time courses or look at their website.

Sallystrawberry you've started already! Hows it going? I start Monday so pretty nervous. Has your bursary been sorted out yet?

mummysmilk · 25/09/2005 19:17

I start the nursing diploma tomorrow and still havent heard bout bursary yet Very nervous as it is so not knowing about that makes everything worse!

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 20:38

you normally get your bursary paid in the first week of uni and it goes via student services or the cash office and you get 2 months of bursary at once, so just be warned that you won't get paid again for 2 months!
