The really hot day last week made me realise that it had to be done. Beautiful head of long golden ringlets. As the hairdresser cut them, I scrabbled around on the floor grabbing them and putting them in a nappy sack, trying to stop my tears splodging on the floor. They all thought I was mad. Woe is me .

He's 2 in June.

ds2 gets beautiful curls if his hair grows long - which it does at an alarming rate - all lovely and thick and curly - he's 14 months and has had his hair cut twice so far and I've found it really traumatic both times - definitely lump in the throat time..! He looks less and less like a baby each time the curls get cut off!

I nearly cried when dd1's tooth went wobbly

Donbean · 31/05/2005 22:03

mines got blond curls too, its like sheering a sheep when it needs doing.
Luckily a friend of our did the first hair cut at about 13 months. DH was snapping away with the digital camera because it was a "first" and we treasure all of his "firsts".
Must admit a tear came to my eye bacause he looked like a little boy more so.
Needless to say we have kept his little curls.
I dont think that you are pathetic, at all.x

Aww bless. My sweetheart needs a haircut but I keep putting it off.

huggybear · 31/05/2005 22:09

your not the only one

ds2 had his first hair cut today and there was me trying to catch it as it fell

he looks like a girl now

I have been thinking I need to cut DS's hair, he has next to nothing on the sides and a fringe of sorts - but these really annoying curls behind each ear, very weird!

(don't listen to the miserable old boots earlier - some people just look for stuff to gripe about). DS is my first and I am going to indulge (within reason of course) every milestone - so there!

I daresay more like Christina Aguilera (sp?) if I am honest - very disconcerting when he is in the mood for twirling them round his fingers - the big gay bear, takes after his dad

charleepeters · 31/05/2005 22:46

i just know i will cry when ds goes for the snip he was born with dark blonde gorgeous hair, it naturally sits in a cute style and i love it i never want him to have it cut, luckily hes only 9 monts so it will be a while yet!

RTKangaMummy · 31/05/2005 22:47

DEFFO keep them for when he is older

Carla · 31/05/2005 22:51

puff, haven't read the rest of this thread, but I'm FAR more pathetic. DD2 is 5 and I've never had her hair cut. Appreciate it must be more difficult with a boy

LGJ · 31/05/2005 22:52

I framed a lock or two, from DS's first hair cut, in a tiny frame on the mantelpiece..............

So come on, unsympathetic, if you think you are hard enough

Carla · 31/05/2005 22:52

BTW, I've got a bag of dd1's curls in the kitchen - for God's sake date them, otherwise they're meaningless.

Blu · 31/05/2005 22:55

Puff - been there! Poor you!
Unsympathetic - YOU'RE pathetic! Name-changing, indeed!

Puff · 31/05/2005 23:15

Glad it's not just me then.

Halfway through the deed, all the front of his hair was short and the back was still long. I seriously wondered whether to shout "halt there!" but even a 2 year old doesn't look good with a mullet!

@ mullet

highlander · 01/06/2005 20:46

aww, Puff. Surely it's loving and normal to mourn the passing of your baby's babiness......... nah, too American

YOU WUSS!!!!!!!! At least you'll have a classic 'when you were a baby' story to tell your DS when he's all growed up! My sister loves telling her DD how she cried when DD was born cos she was soooo beautiful.
