Baby Wearers-did you ever regret decision to baby wear?

Hi am due dc3 in 5 weeks and have decided to baby wear and got a moby wrap which I cant wait to wear.Havent bought a carrycot for my pram so my question is did any of you not like baby wearing and go to use a buggy instead?Should I get carrycot for pram just in case I don`t like it or not?

I don't get all this 'babywearers' thing, as if it's an identity/exclusive lifestyle choice. Most people I know who use slings and carriers do so in addition to buggies, just depending on what suits that particular baby and what suits your lifestyle or what you are doing on that day.
FWIW our sling got a lot more use than our buggy when babies were small. If you don't expect to use the pram much I probably wouldn't bother with the carrycot, you can always get one later on if you decide you need it.

Thanks will probably wait till baby born and see how we get on. was definitely thinking of using buggy more when bigger as my dcs get quite big babies.Just wasn`t sure of spending over £100 for carrycot and not using it much.

I use an ergo with DD3 so I can push DD2 in the maclaren and it works very well. You can always buy a carrycot if the sling doesn't work out.

I found the carrier V. useful because I could attend to the other DC's while DD3 slept (she always seemed to sleep for ages in th carrier)

I find the phrase 'baby wearing' highly irritating.

I think I carried dd1 in a sling for the first 4/5 months of her life, so never used a proper pram.

You can see how it goes with the sling, and buy a carrycot if necessary after the baby is born.

Hormones are going crazy at moment and just worrying about everything.

I don't see why it has to be either or, you might want to do both-on the same day.

Don't they get really heavy after a while? I had several slings for dd but they were mostly used round Ikea or round supermarket etc. I wouldn't have had the energy to carry her plus bags of shopping, especially when she got bigger. I know there are some on here still using slings for 3yos. They must be super fit!

piscesmoon just love idea of having ds close to me most of time but you right so will wait till babys here and then can always send DP out to buy carrycot if needed.Dont really have anyone to ask in RL so thanks for your advice everyone.

My DH thought it ridiculous to push a baby around in a huge contraption, so I had a sling most of the time but it can be nice to have a rest and push them around. I just had a pram that my neighbour dug out of her loft. You can just get something cheap, second hand-the baby isn't bothered! Reading threads on here, prams seem to be a status symbol-but it is one that completely passes me by!

Bella, I wouldn't bother with a carrycot - you'll prob use the sling when the baby's tiny and you can get pushchairs that are suitable from birth anyway so I always think carrycots are a bit pointless. I live in a flat though so I'm biased!!

Hi we live in flat too and haven`t got that much space.Got a Micralite Toro where seat does go completely flat so sure baby be able to go in once in a while anyway.

they do get heavy !! I used a sling a lot but it was nice to push her about in a pram as well. I'd just get a pram that lies flat, we had a bugaboo bee with a baby nest and that was fine!

No. Only used the pushchair to do the supermarket shop (no car) in the early months. Loved going walking/ shopping etc in the sling - babies grow gradually so you get fitter gradually - I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a carrycot.

Carried my little ones in my left arm at home and in a baby bjorn sling when out & about. Worked fine and my lo's rarely cried.

nope didnt regret although was told i would at times.i had 2 spare hands for my other 2 dc and could carry ds2 whilst cleaning,cooking etc.

my only regret is that by the time ds2 was 2ish he got too big-im small,hes not!and that i couldnt find a better sling when dd or ds1 were small so that i could babywear more.

i did use a buggy at times but had facing me one at first,then turned them around as they got older to discover the big wide world. mostly used the sling but at times the buggy was more useful.if i could have only had one or the other id say sling....i think

I've always used pushchairs and slings so you can have different options for different situations. When younger, I tended to sling more as mine both hated the pram until 6-8mths. You've made a good choice with a moby - will stay very comfortable far beyond baby bjorn type carriers, but if you are still carrying beyond 5ish months, you'd be better to get a woven wrap or mei tai type carrier. I'm still carrying DD at nearly 15mths in comfort.

sling always useful but agree with comments that it's not an exclusive thing, especially when the baby gets heavy, you're trying to pushing no1 in the buggy with lots of extra stuff on a hot day

NB I know babies who have hated slings, so don't assume that it will be the most tactile of los, just in case it isn't

We had to use a pram from birth as my baby screamed in a sling or wrap. She was a strange baby and hated being "hemmed in" :-O At 14 months she still doesn't like being held close or even cuddles. She's happiest being physically free so prams and buggies it's always been. It saddens me though because I would have loved that snuggly feeling :-(

We used Bugaboo Bee with baby nest from birth - light, narrow, nippy, ideal for newborn but then take nest out and use as normal buggy when baby grows. We can see it lasting a few years but I don't think it would be good for babies/toddlers who are on the big side.

I found a pram or buggy completely useless for the first three months when dd2 refused to go in one. So I just used slings. Now I also use a buggy for when I go shopping so I have somewhere to put my bags. She's a year old and still fine to carry although I have changed slings.

used both sling and pushchair/pram for both boys - the pram was a godsend for the chundertastic days though

I used a wrap with dd2 until she was 1- very handy.However ifwe were out shopping orwhatever I would put herin a pramaswell- handy for putting bags onlol

Orissiah has a good point-wait and see what the baby likes-they are all different. There often seems to be the view that one way is best for all babies-I don't think it true at all-what suits one baby doesn't suit another. I remember the nurse in hospital telling me all babies liked being swaddled. I know from movement in the womb that mine liked his arms free and sure enough he struggled and struggled and got them free. I remember being very proud that he was only one day old and already doing his own thing!
