Child still in buggy

Hi my little boy was 4 right before Xmas and still uses a buggy a lot as I do a lot of walking and be gets tired. Does anyone have a child 4 and still in a buggy

Mine will be 4 in not long as we use a double buggy as I don't have a car and he can't walk everywhere we need to go!

Are they 4 now? And you use a double

My girl regularly used a buggy until age 5.
We have no car and a 5 year with little legs simply couldn't walk the distances we often needed to go.

I stopped using it exactly as she turned 4

My son has just turned 4, he hasn’t used a buggy at all for a year. He uses a scooter or balance bike when we go out. I would say we walk 50% but do also use the car 50%.

Did she use much before then

My youngest turned 4 just before Christmas. We used the pushchair on the school run as I don't drive and often have to walk for up to 6 miles after school to get all the children to their activities. This can mean walking late in the evening and the pushchair makes a lot more sense . A lot of the time she walks and isn't reliant on the pushchair but it's there for when she or her brother needs it

Well yes
I don't have a car so we'd walk miles. But I'd bring the pushchair, she'd hop out and walk a lot then sometimes she'd hop back in. In and out.
Till we didn't need it anymore.
She was a good walker then and she still walks miles now

We walk a lot but he hates the pram so we use a combination of a ride on scooter, balance bike and carrier. Do use pram on occasion still.

I used a wagon as needed while DS was 5 (and little brother 3) and just informed him last week he’s had his final ride. He can walk ages but he can’t always walk when we need to go places or will get silly. So still struggles now, but I’ll have to put up with it or wait him out. Spent a lot of time the past few months working on it with him. Still going to be completely f-ed when little brother is acting up or tired because DS1 would just hop in if I bring the wagon.

Our 4 year old still uses the buggy occasionally. Same as previous posters, we have no car and walk to lots of places. We often use a scooter that we can pull when too tired to scoot, but sometimes DC wants to nap and takes a turn in the buggy.

I got told off on a bus for having my 2 year old in a buggy still: ‘should be walking at that age!’ Poor thing was trying to fall asleep after a very long walk. When I pushed back the woman said ‘oh I thought he was 3 already.’ So some people are weird about it.

We had double decker P&Ted's and a younger brother, he jumped on the bottom of that til he was 7 😆
Both kids were little for longer and we used an umbrella buggy for a long as they needed it.
I didn't drive, we walked EVERYWHERE, sometimes lil legs get tired and you just need to get where you are going!

No we didn’t use it really after about 3-3.5 excluding on holiday so they could sleep during late dinners. You can’t keep them in a buggy forever and they’re not fully going to match your walking pace and stamina until they’re about 10 (and even then they’ll probably still moan about it!) so you just have to adapt at some point.

We used a trike that had a push handle which was great. It reclined too so if she happen to fall asleep she could lie back. She was/is petite so not sure how it would fair for bigger kids but she used it nearly 4. I had twins and i she used it while the babies were small enough to fit in a double sling.
i have a double stacked pram for the babies and she used to sit in the under basket, still does at 5!

Dd2 was in hers on the school run as she'd get to tired. She stopped out of her choice all of a sudden about 4 years and several months old I wouldn't worry their keys are so tiny bless them

Both of mine walked, and we got rid of the buggy by the time DD2 was 2 and a half. DD1 was younger but she hated the buggy and wanted to walk everywhere.

Its depends on how far you need to go... and how quickly! DD1 would happily walk the trip home from nursery at 2 (about 1.5 miles) but we could go at her pace. It didn't matter how many sticks we examined or how long we looked at the buying site etc.

With DD2... we didn't have the same time luxury. We had to be at school for pick up on time, or getting to the youth club on time... and then across the village to Baby ballet on time... you get the picture. So DD2 was on the pushchair a lot longer than DD1. We last used it a month before she started school (ad we moved country and didn't take it!)

You have to remember it's rarely just a 4 year in the buggy.
It's 3 bags of shopping, school lunch bag, school book bag and your handbag/backpack....
Trying to carry that lot plus hold the hand of your child to keep them safe is impossible.
I was often given the "use a scooter" advice - it ended up just another thing to carry when child got bored/tired scooting.

I don’t drive, so we walk everywhere.

Eldest (4.5) hasn’t used a buggy for a few years now. He was turfed out at about 2.5, when his younger sibling started using it, and he isn’t that keen on the buggy board. He walked really early and was forced strongly encouraged to walk everywhere from being pretty young, but I remember the return journey from pre-school still often felt like it took a million years.

Middle (2.5) will often walk, though will still use the buggy if we are running late on the school run, which is about 2km. I think I’d struggle to get rid of the buggy completely at this age, even though the older one was fine. Different kids! Do whatever works best for got.

The only reason DD stopped using a buggy was because Covid hit and we weren't allowed to go anywhere, but she probably would have used it until 4-5ish. I don't have a car and walk miles everyday. Sometimes I needed to get to places on time as knew I wouldn't always manage it with a tired child. I have noticed that those who judge the most are the ones who drive their DCs everywhere.

I agree it depends on the child and the amount of walking - I've never used a pram, only a carrier, so I got my eldest walking everywhere by 2.5 when my youngest was born. I don't drive but I use the bus a lot, and would limit what we did by the amount of walking that was involved (and still do this now really, my eldest has also just turned 4). I dont see a problem in you using a pram if you are wanting/needing to walk long distances

Every child is different. My eldest is 18 and would still use a buggy if she could. We have a four year gap and I vividly remember my younger dd at 2 pushing our eldest who was 6.5 down the paseo in Spain….
