Just that really. Just wondering how old you think the child is that drew this picture? They did it completely by themselves.

Genuine question - why do people post these pictures and questions? Is it because they think their child is so advanced for their age and want confirmation?

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 31/07/2025 10:34

@Helpmeplease2025i was just wondering the same thing.

RaininSummer · 31/07/2025 10:42

About 6

Groveparkmama · 31/07/2025 12:22

Thanks all. I was just curious, because I thought it was a pretty good picture. People have said that my son is quite artistic and creative, but I’m not sure whether he has some genuine talent or if he is just pretty average for his age. I guess his writing probably gave things away a bit! I’ve seen these types of posts on Mumsnet before, and there must be a lot of people on here with incredibly advanced children. I would be very impressed if a 3 year old drew like that!

So what age is your son?

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 31/07/2025 12:39

How old is he then OP? My guess would be 4 or 5...

DiscoBob · 31/07/2025 12:41

Around four.

BlackStrayCat · 31/07/2025 13:08

4 or 5

Comedycook · 31/07/2025 13:40

So how old is he op?

I can't believe so many people are saying 4 or younger by the way. My DD was quite artistic but no way could have done this at age 4. The lines and patterns are quite intricate and neat and the colours are mainly in the lines. I really can't see a very young child having the manual dexterity to do that.

HaroldMeaker · 31/07/2025 13:46

I think it’s great! There’s a lot of small details they’ve drawn so my guess is 7.

So what age then?

I think it’s total crap that a 4 year old could do this. Would love to see the evidence! I would say 7/8

Allseeingallknowing · 31/07/2025 13:51

6-7. No way is it a 3 as someone suggested!

Groveparkmama · 31/07/2025 14:21

Sorry forgot to say in my previous response -he’s 5.

Pretty average for his age judging by all the drawings that have come out of my DDs reception class this year from her and her friends.

That sounds a bit mean! It’s very good for his age.

FunnyOrca · 31/07/2025 14:51

4/5 Reception aged

How is it mean? There's nothing wrong with average, it doesn't mean he's bad at drawing. Not every child will be the best at everything and that's okay.

I feel that OP thinks the drawing is above average, and I agree. It is very detailed and well coloured.

Catingle · 31/07/2025 15:39

Honestly I think on threads like these people deliberately low ball it just because they're rolling their eyes at the possibility people might think their child is unusually talented.

I think the level of precision in use of line and colouring is fairly average for age but some of the use of colour and detail as well as overall creativity is above average.

I have an 8 year old who isn't particularly skilled in penmanship but his output of creative ideas is immense and he gets a lot of positive feedback for the quality of his artwork and would definitely have come up with something like this aged 5.

That’s really impressive

ididitandthatsgood · 31/07/2025 18:16

He a fab little artist. It’s lovely that at 5 he has taken his time to draw such a carefully detailed picture. My middle DC is arty and it came naturally to her but she definitely wouldn’t have had the patience to take the time to draw such a detailed picture at that age.

moose17 · 31/07/2025 18:19

5/6

jen337 · 31/07/2025 18:30

Doesn’t matter, children develop at different rates and some are more gifted at drawing and some not so good at it, try not to worry about what your child ‘should be able to do’ or be too proud if they’re “ahead”, just appreciate their drawing for what it is.
