When did your pre pregnancy clothes fit you after birth?

I ordered myself a pair of jeans (size 14) when I was still pregnant thinking that they would fit me after baby, but they are so tight and do not do up at all. They look huge and I cannot believe they do not fit me! I did only give birth just over 2 weeks ago but when I look in the mirror I don’t actually feel much bigger than when I was pre pregnancy so confused as to why they don’t fit.

This is baby number 2 so not sure if it takes longer to bounce back, but just wanted to ask others how long did it take you to get back into your pre pregnancy clothes?

Op these threads mostly attract
a) "I was back in my pre pregnancy clothes at two weeks" or
b) "My child is in secondary school and it hasn't happened yet"

I would say that two weeks is too early to tell how it's going to go, and your uterus is still shrinking until 6 weeks anyway. It's certainly possible if your body is inclined that way (I was basically there by six weeks and then the rest came off in the following couple of months).

I have never been back to my pre-pregnancy weight so far (nearly 5 years) but I have had 2 kids (2 sections) and further surgery and 2 non sleeping kids.

But also, i couldn’t wear some of the same clothes because the shape of my body also changed, so there’s that to consider.

Similar to a PP, my body shape changed completely after giving birth and my feet grew by almost a whole size so nothing really fitted even when I got back to under my pre-pregnancy weight.

How close together were your children? When I had two children three years apart, my youngest is nearly 4 and I am now finding I'm roughly the size I was before these two pregnancies. I put on a lot of weight with the two of them, and was a bit bigger generally for a couple of years following DC3. Mind you I didn't try very hard to shed it, because I am normally slightly underweight, so I felt healthier being a bit bigger.

Weight wise with my first I returned to my old weight after about a month but my body still wasn't the same e.g wider hips, ribcage but my feet went back to normal size lol but by month 2/3 I was pretty much pre pregnancy but I didn't eat with ppd. With my second it all took wayy longer, bf made me hold weight the second time and I felt very 'fluidy' for weeks. But by 10/12 months I was back to myself, actually lighter but I was dieting and exercising properly, but my body shape is definitely different. These things take time, your body has went through a lot and it's not going to jump back and may never be the same but that's normal and ok

About 19 years...

I’m one of those annoying women that was straight back into my jeans as soon as I’d given birth. In fact, my maternity wear consisted of a few pairs of size 14 trousers I bought.

My belly did resemble blancmange though.

MauraLabingi · 28/07/2025 13:15

Ah yes, the belly blancmange! 😆 I had that for a long time after I could get back into my jeans. And the crinkly skin. They did eventually go though, but I think that part is down to luck/genetics.
