MIL fed my children ice cream for dinner

My MIL offers to collect DC 1 day a week from school then proceeds to feed him ice cream for tea. I am grateful for the childcare. But ungrateful for the unhealthy tea. I know she feeds DN a wholesome meal once a week whilst in her care. And leaves my kitchen in a state

Depending on the timing I wouldn’t care for one day a week. My son would eat an ice cream and then have his tea a little later on no problem. It’s just pudding before tea for one night a week, and a bit of a treat pudding. But I know for some kids it would spoil their tea.

Seriously??

Just ice cream? Seems a bit weird and my child would be asking for actual food themselves.
And how does she leave the kitchen in a mess if she’s not providing anything except ice cream?
Ice cream as part of a meal is totally fine.

I would find this annoying as I don’t want my kids having sugar often. But this is easily solved by a conversation. ‘MIL, I have put dinner in the fridge, please serve that to DC. You’re welcome to serve a small portion of ice cream alongside dinner but not just dinner.’ That way you’ve prepared dinner so no mess and DC is getting some real food.

Don’t be a drama llama just use your big girl words.

Maybe she was expecting food to be there for him. When there wasn’t anything provided she headed to the freezer.. as a one off it’s fine (assuming he survived?!)

Just ice cream? Was there some confusion somewhere and she thought you’d be eating dinner together later and gave ice cream as a snack, which would be fair enough given it’s summer?

If its a one off id have a word and leave it.

If shes unable / cant be arsed to make the child a sandwich I'd find a childminder.

Ice cream was his snack, feed him tea when you get home. OR leave a meal for him for mil to give to him.

Sounds fabulous. Today for dinner me & my kids are having chocolate frostys ( ice cream/milkshake) with fries for dipping.

Look after them yourself if it’s not to your standards.

Surely the ice cream is just a snack and she’s expecting you to provide a meal later? If you want her to provide a meal you need to tell her/ask her about this.

Does she have room for another? Sounds like a great dinner.

Woah... careful you don't end with MIL giving you a big fat finger when you want help in future. This is tiny and won't affect him. They serve ice cream for pudding at school for goodness' sake.
