Upper age bracket you would consider final baby

I had my first at just turned 33 and my second at 35.(Which for my area is surprisingly on the younger side).
I know it's super personal and situation-dependent but I'd like to know based on these ages, what's the oldest you would leave it to potentially try for a 3rd?
Also interested to know what you think the average age for people to be having kids (especially in London/Greater London) is.

I had a dc at 43.3. Uneventful pregnancy.. Spotting at 35 weeks resulted in emcs. Scan showed 2 x12cm blood clots. Reassured weren't age related just one of those things...
Had a very healthy ds.. Now 10 with no health issues... Am no more tired than my dc at 37...

My personal limit has always been 35. Extremely luckily (we had secondary infertility after our first and a few MCs) I am pregnant with our 3rd and final who is due the month before I turn 35.

LavenderBlue19 · 03/05/2025 18:25

Personally I think it would have been 40. I had my first at 37, felt too old for a second when I finally felt ready at 42.

It's based on how old I'll be/risk of death before they're grown up, and also my parents being older and knowing they'll need increasing help in the next few years (both pushing 80). I don't fancy having a toddler and also an 80 year old dad with heart problems.

Probably 38 for a 3rd but for 1st/2nd would try up to about my age which is 43

interestedwhy · 03/05/2025 18:26

I had babies at 35 and 37 , I set a limit at 40 - it didn’t happen though despite trying - in retrospect I think the peri symptoms started about then though

Middleagedstriker · 03/05/2025 18:30

Ideally 35. I had my last at 36 and found that tough.

I always said 40, then I had 4 miscarriages so it was really when we could get to 2 without having an impact on the oldest. We didn’t put an age on it, rather that another miscarriage was probably our limit.

As it was, I was almost 42 when child 2 was born. She’s amazing.

Edited

@OldGothsFadeToGrey exactly the same for me. He's amazing too!

ConsuelaHammock · 03/05/2025 18:31

Mine was 40. It didn’t happen so we stopped trying.

Holiday24 · 03/05/2025 18:31

My limit would be 40.

DeskJotter · 03/05/2025 18:32

42

legoplaybook · 03/05/2025 18:32

35
Had my last at 33 and I'm tired enough!

ConsuelaHammock · 03/05/2025 18:32

If I hadn’t already had a child I would have tried past 40. Maybe 43? Same age as my paternal grandmother was when my father was born.

Roselilly36 · 03/05/2025 18:32

32 for me, last child 18 when I turned 50.

2025mustbebetter · 03/05/2025 18:36

My limit was 35 but I had my last at 36. I was one of the first of my friends to have a child at 29 bit also the last to have one at 36! I have the oldest and youngest kids in my friendship group! Most of my friends were early 30s and done by 35.

That said i feel that if I hadn't already had them I would have happily had a later baby but because I already had 2 I didn't want even bigger age caps.

fuckislessoffensivethanpardon · 03/05/2025 18:38

I had my 3rd at 22. My last was at 40

CoffeeChocolateWine · 03/05/2025 18:38

40 was my cut-off...as in, I wanted to have had my last baby by the time I turned 40. I had my third and final at 39.5!

DaydreamingDogs · 03/05/2025 18:38

I had my second and last child at 31 but my cut off would have been 35.

UpJacksArseAndRoundTheCorner · 03/05/2025 18:38

My upper limit was 36 although I had my 3rd and last at 33.

Scarydinosaurs · 03/05/2025 18:38

For me, 32

romdowa · 03/05/2025 18:40

I had my first at 33 , due my second in a few weeks and 36 and I'm done. Even in 3 years the difference has been huge , I'm so tired this time round and I don't think I could face doing it again with two small kids 😅

Hydrangeadangerranger · 03/05/2025 18:40

My cut off was 35

user3879208717 · 03/05/2025 18:42

30 for me. My parents died young and the women in my maternal family are not long lived so I wanted to minimise the chances of DC being bereaved before being proper adults.

Allswellthatendswelll · 03/05/2025 18:45

Had first at 33 then fertility issues meant second at almost 37. If we'd still had issues I'd have probably stopped trying at 40. Now I've got 2 I feel too old to try for a third just because I've found pregnancy hard on my body and because of the chromosomal risks. Also I don't want a small gap so realistically if I had another one I'd be 39/ 40 and I want to be out of the small child phase before the perimenopause!

Loads of my friends haven't had one yet though! I think it is a very personal choice.

MrsPlantagenet · 03/05/2025 18:46

35 for me.

maddiemookins16mum · 03/05/2025 18:53

45 max.
