If your baby’s eyes were blue at 6m did they stay blue?

I know it doesn’t matter really but Ds looks the spit of his dad with his big blue eyes but I know he may not keep them and mine are brown.
He is 6m now though so is it likely he will keep them now?

It’s unlikely that he’ll change to fully brown now, but the colour might change up to 3 years. Do
you see any brown or golden flecks? And some even have very subtle shifts at puberty.

My eldest’s eyes stayed grey/blue until he was 2, they’re now light brown. My middle child has a type of hetrochromia, blue/grey outer and brown near the pupil. He has a few developmental conditions so not sure if it’s a physical part of his delays or if it’s just a fluke of nature, they’re beautiful though (I’m very jealous!). My youngest developed dark brown eyes almost immediately (I’m not entirely sure if he was born with them!), just like mine and my maternal side. It depends on the type of blue they are, I’ve found that children who keep blue eyes are a different shade from the colour most babies are born with.

My dd was born with brown eyes, my ds with blue. Both are still the same colour at 2 and 4.

I’m blue eyes husband has brown eyes. Both girls had piercing blue eyes till they around 2 when they slowly went (beautiful) green.

If they were going to be brown I know my nieces went brown quite quickly after being born.

OwlsDance · 10/04/2025 10:57

Yes, DS had blue eyes when born, started changing to green when he was 2 or 3 and, and then went brown at 6 or 7? I'm a bit hazy on the time line though.

RaspberryBeretxx · 10/04/2025 11:00

Dc1 had dark blue eyes at 6m, now dark brown. Dc2 had mid to dark blue eyes at 6m and now tawny/amber/light greyish brownish colour depending on the light.

I'd say if your baby's eyes are a similar shade of blue to your dh now then they may stay that way.

No!

nocoattoday · 10/04/2025 11:15

They are very light blue almost have white in them exactly like his dad. I’ve looked at the side angle in the light and they look clear.

My DDs both had bright blue eyes at 6 months but they both changed gradually to green and didn’t settle to their final colour until they were 8 ish. Mine did the same, so eye colour definitely can change through childhood.
Going from blue to brown is less likely though I would think- you might end up with green or hazel!

ThatTipsyMintMember · 10/04/2025 11:32

DS had a few brown flecks in at 6m but didn't really go hazel till just before 3 and pre-school and they have slowly darken to dark brown since.

My Dsis went from bright blue to grey in first year like DMum and kept them.

FlatStanley50 · 10/04/2025 11:51

Yes, mine had bright blue eyes at 6 months, gradually turned to greenish blue buy the time she was about 5/6. Much paler than they were at 6 months though.

BumbleBeegu · 10/04/2025 11:57

My granddaughter had really deep blue eyes when she was born…they stayed like this until fairly recently and now, at 20 months, they are a beautiful hazel.

mrsed1987 · 10/04/2025 11:58

My son had blue eyes until he was about 2 now they are green with brown around the middle

Hoppinggreen · 10/04/2025 11:59

My DC are 16 and 20 and still have blue eyes
DH's are blue and mine are green

Tbrh · 10/04/2025 12:00

I think they can change up until 3. My DS had blue eyes, then grey until around 1 and then they turned brown (although probably better describe as hazel in some light). Genetics are a funny thing!

Coffeeishot · 10/04/2025 12:02

Yes my Dds stayed blue hers was ressive I think Is the term., a grandparent has blue eyes,

TenaciousOne · 10/04/2025 12:02

DS’s eyes started to change around 10 months with brown flecks then a quarter at a time around a year. He was fully brown before he was 2. He has blue marks in his eyes if you look closely

It isn't ressesive at all I'm talking rubbish.

tinseltitss · 10/04/2025 12:35

My eyes are extremely dark brown, my DD's dad's are blue, she had bright blue eyes when she was born and now still has blue eyes (ages 18 years) but not as bright as they were.

CloverPyramid · 10/04/2025 12:51

Yes. He’s had blue eyes since birth and they stayed blue (he’s now 3.5). My husband has brown eyes so there was a chance they’d change but they haven’t so far.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 10/04/2025 12:57

DH and I both have brown eyes.

DS was born with dark blue eyes, almost navy. They lightened as he got older but we're still very definitely blue at 6 months.

By 12 months they were greeny/brown and then became more definitely brown as he got older.

spiderlight · 10/04/2025 13:03

Mine had very blue eyes until he was about 10, but they've gradually become more bluey-grey since then.

Miracle1116 · 12/04/2025 22:25

DS2 born with blue eyes but dark blue so I knew will change color as both my DH and I have dark brown eyes. In next 2 month his eyes turned light brown greenish shade and keep getting darker as he gets older now he is 18m. His hair is still super light blond which is also puzzling as we are both dark brown.

Same as my DD

anicecuppateaa · 12/04/2025 22:31

DTs both had blue eyes at 6m. One now has green eyes, one has brown.
