2 year old boy in leggings? Is this ok?

Is there a age where my son should stop wearing leggings? He wears them most days with a hoodie or oversized tee.

I saw another mum on TikTok discuss it and it made me think/question when and if he should stop wearing them?

I just find them so comfy and practical for him haha plus I'm always in leggings myself and much more comfy than a pair of jeans

This thread is weird. I don’t think at any age a child can be flashing wearing leggings. It hadn’t even crossed my mind - I buy them because they’re comfy and thinner than joggers when it isn’t as cold

VioletCrawleyForever · 05/11/2024 17:54

Of course it's fine.

tweetypi · 05/11/2024 17:56

Yeah of course they're fine. My son is a similar age and will be wearing them until he de idea he doesn't want to.

God my 9 & 7 year old still wear leggings 😵‍💫

TheGreatScotchEggControversy · 05/11/2024 18:00

They are called skins now, all the sport lads wear them near me with football shorts over the top.

This is the thing this wasn't brought to my attention till I saw the video and saw the comments on the thread haha

Of course it's fine. He'll probably decide himself when he doesn't want to wear them anymore, but I'd say up to 4/5 starting school sort of age is fine

Pipersouth · 05/11/2024 18:10

My skinny 9 year old wear them for pe as he hates that joggers are loose or can’t try up tight enough

AegonT · 06/11/2024 11:11

My mum was so ahead of the times in the 90s dressing my brother in my old leggings! I was very wrong back them for thinking it was silly! Let him wear them as long as you both want to. I wouldn't think anything of seeing a young boy wearing leggings today.

Our 4 year old grandson loves his leggings.

Loving this thread as I'd never heard of Lindex and they look great for my jogger refusing DS! I as surprised to see a preschool worker saying that leggings are harder for toilet training as we've found DS can pull them up and down pretty easily - definitely much easier for toileting than jeans, which I've seen suggested for boys by a PP.

Other hard-wearing leggings I've come across are the slightly ribbed ones in bright colours that Tu does in a multipack. The ones aimed at girls are so flimsy, as if girls don't also want to spend all day crawling around on concrete (or whatever it is my DS does to them...).

So does mine-he’s so skinny they’re the only thing that’s stays up!

I guess it's ok if you're ok with it. My sons only ever wear leggings(thermals) under their clothes on cold days, but that is it. Never bought them leggings just to wear them like that. Around home they either in their pyjamas (loose) or joggers. But I see so many little boys in blade and rose leggings when we go out. I personally wouldn't dress my boys like that, and that's just my preference.

Tisfortired · 06/11/2024 12:14

I hope so as I have just bought my DS (2 next mont) a very cool pair 😂

I agree they can be a bit thin and flimsy though and won’t keep them cosy through the next few months. He’ll wear them for pottering around the house and running indoor errands, other than that he’ll be in joggers or dungarees.

MovingTooFast121 · 06/11/2024 12:19

I bought 6yo DS some fleece lined leggings for his Halloween costume this year. He ended up wearing them for three days straight because he loves them!

Jingleballs2 · 06/11/2024 12:38

I loved my son in leggings! He wore them until he was at least 3, maybe 4

WineIsMyCarb · 06/11/2024 12:46

My 2.5yo son is often in leggings. Any links to fleece lined ones greatly appreciated as I much prefer them to joggers (snobby cow!) and it is getting a bit cold for the thinner ones.

CocoDC · 06/11/2024 12:47

I personally don’t like them for boys or girls - they’re often cheap, not warm enough, and don’t provide much cushioning. They’re okay for sports when you need thin clothes to be out of the way but I personally think they aren’t good enough for leisurewear. My kids have always worn non-skinny joggers / jeans / trousers outside of sports.

But he’s also 2 so you make the decisions. If you want him to wear leggings then do it.
