MIL licked my 8 month old daughter's hand? Is this weird or am I over exaggerating?

So my daughter was eating a yoghurt and MIL put my daughter's hand in her mouth and licked the yoghurt off of each finger... I was in shock! She had a cloth in the other hand which she was wiping my daughter's mouth with but she then continued to lick her hands clean... I was in so much disbelief that I didn't say anything to her but I don't think this is acceptable?! What does everyone else think? It's strange right?

Very odd

Changingplace · 30/08/2024 20:20

Yeah that’s weird, absolutely no need, ugh.

HarpyBirthday · 30/08/2024 20:21

I have a mental image of that now, and yes it's weird.

I do that to my own child… so I wouldn’t be grossed out enough to make a post on it but I might think they were being a bit brave

Stirmish · 30/08/2024 20:23

That's so weird

Tiegs · 30/08/2024 20:37

Yes very weird

HighlyStrung1987 · 30/08/2024 20:37

I don't think it's that weird tbh. Quite brave of your MIL though, she'll probably come down with something in a few days 😂

fuffymeloncauli · 30/08/2024 20:38

I think that's disgusting and expect she will now pick up a stomach bug or hand foot and mouth

Newsenmum · 30/08/2024 20:39

yuck

Newsenmum · 30/08/2024 20:39

It’s incredibly intimate, unnecessary and also gross?

Sunshineclouds11 · 30/08/2024 20:41

So weird and disgusting

Newsenmum · 30/08/2024 20:48

Was it really good yoghurt or something? I’d tell your husband at least .

ThatGutsyHedgehog · 30/08/2024 20:50

That’s disgusting and weird …. Is she normally batshit?

shellyleppard · 30/08/2024 20:52

🤢🤢🤢that is weird as .......🤢🤢🤢🤢 I hope you said something to her!!! Strange behaviour indeed

msbevvy · 30/08/2024 20:54

I wouldn't do it myself but I wouldn't be disgusted by it.

BlackShuck3 · 30/08/2024 20:56

If I was in your shoes op I would give her a look that made sure she never did that again, it's a power move she's trying to gain ownership of your child.

This, she's trying to be more intimate with your baby than you are.

HighlyStrung1987 · 30/08/2024 21:03

Omg these responses are wild 😂

Willoo · 30/08/2024 21:04

Years ago this would’ve been normal. It wouldn’t bother me. I’m never sick because of stuff like this. Haven’t had a day off sick in years.

Sugargliderwombat · 30/08/2024 21:06

Very strange way of forcing some kind of weird intimacy. Also, gross.

rainbowsparkle28 · 30/08/2024 21:09

Odd. Especially when she has a cloth in her hand - why would you not just use that?! Could maybe understand in a pinch if nothing else but would still rather not.

Lijay · 30/08/2024 21:35

Did she do it in a jokey 'nom nom nom' I'm eating your fingers kind of way? Because I do that to my DS. Wouldn't want MIL doing it as well but maybe she forgot her self and went back to something she used to do with her own children?
It is a bit weird but I don't think she's trying to be 'intimate' with your daughter as some ops have said. to me that's even weirder to suggest 😂

Supermacs · 30/08/2024 21:57

My mum used to do this with all her gc when they were toddlers, personally I think its disgusting but Im quite germ phobic. She has disordered eating patterns from childhood (must clear the plate etc) and so sees it as not wasting food. Then she would also eat food from the top of the bin 🤢

tonyhawks23 · 30/08/2024 21:58

yes thats weird.

autienotnaughty · 30/08/2024 22:14

🤢

I wouldn't do that with my own child!!

I'd have said "you know she had her hand in her nappy earlier?"
