I'm half way though one essay, got another to do on the weekend (great fun again!). Going to start about 8ish tonight.

Anyone joining me for word counting!

well done - those fiddly bits always take longer than you can imagine.

I hope you sleep well - hope to see you soon.

Thanks for the company - made it much nicer!

ChocolateRockingHorse · 13/04/2008 02:58

I'm on 1,751, my biggest challenge being now to "get it all in" before I exceed my top end word limit (2,200).

Who's got to get up at a respectable hour "in the morning"? (Oh dear.. this is the morning! )

I've got to get DD to church for 9.40 for choir practice/service at 10.30.

Bugger!

BBBee · 13/04/2008 02:59

are you going to bed choc?

Holy shit! I deferred my degree by a year, I have diploma/degree essay's to complete. I've completed all my class hours. Is there any hope for me? I keep putting off starting and am not going to get my degree if I keep procastinating. I am so that I've been waffling tonight doing sod all and you lot have been working hard.

BBBee · 13/04/2008 03:05

hahaha mhami - I have manny anight like that too. You can do it if you really want to but if you don;t want to enough you don;t.

It is fucking hard work but I think it is great and I love it.

ChocolateRockingHorse · 13/04/2008 03:26

Erm.. may go now BBB. I have worked through the knackered stage though!

I have sort of finished a first draft (2080 words). I think I'll just read it through to see if it's total shit .. although I probably won't be able to tell til tomorrow anyway!

Have you gone to bed?!

Mhamai · 13/04/2008 03:28

You see BBBE it depends on what your studying too though surely. Don't get me wrong I know I've been swing the lead procastinating etc but tbh, I'm training to be a counsellor. My dd's df committed suicide last January. He had only come back into her life six months previously.

Mu own df went into a nursing home, this last October just gone. He's 80 and in the mid approaching early late stages of Alzheimer's/

I digress somewhat. I really do want to complete my degree. I have done as a (40 yr old sinle mum mature student) everything in my power to keep me from going under.

I've continued with my classes/workshops/projects personal therapy/client work/supervision/reading........ I will complete my degree and I really want to but it's not often so black and white.

Mhamai · 13/04/2008 03:31

Oh and after all my heroic I didn't crumple palava............... I simply now have a fookin huge big kick ass bout of writers/ideas/it's all in me head but it's not coming out block!

BBBee · 13/04/2008 03:49

oh sorry - I didn't mean if you don;t want to you won;t get there but sometimes it isn't the time. I tried to study before but head wasn't in the right place - it is now.

Counselling is hard if there is stuff going on you have to deal with that is very close to it. Mine resonates a lot sometimes and I need to be able to detatch - if I can;t I can;t study.

Hope life is on as even a keel as it can be.

ChocolateRockingHorse · 13/04/2008 03:53

Mhamai I think you will make a wonderful counsellor - you have all that life experience - you won't just be blowing smoke up their asses and this will show!

Woohoooo I've finished! Well, the first draft as mentioned, but I actually think it may be rather good, after I've jigged it a little (and done my reference list of a million different sources..zzzzzzzzzzzz.. never done an essay with so many outside sources - I actually researched this assignment! ed at self!)

Ha.. now you watch me struggle to scrape a 60%, or worse...

I'm going to get it sorted tomorrow and then submit the fecker.. so I can enjoy the 2nd week of the hols without it hanging over my head!!

Thanks so much for all the support tonight. it really helped!

Great thread Jofe!

BBBee · 13/04/2008 03:54

night choc and well done on getting so much done. Will call it a day too and then do a print out and go over it in the soft play place tomorrow - hurrah!

Mhamai · 13/04/2008 04:05

Hey girls, can I please hook up with you back here in the studebt area? I need to get my ass into gear. The problem is I have approx ten esays to wade through and my (normal) ha! (ironic momentum has gone on permanent leave) Don't anwwer this now by any means but keep me in mind when I start a thread i the not too distant future about grtting my essay head back on.

Goodnight and well done all of you.

Thanks Chocohorse for a badly needed boost of confidence.

yes i am here studying too, reading all about the defence of insanity in law..
people have done some crazy things, i can tell you! Happy working

jofeb04 · 13/04/2008 12:22

lol @ crazy things.

I've only got my conclusion to do now. Need to be about 300words though, so not looking forward to it. Need dh to proof-read it, to make sure my grammer is ok.

Now.... on to my second essay. "Is there is a crisis in Law and Order within modern Britain?" 2500words on it!

OP posts:
fairylights · 13/04/2008 12:29

what course are you doing jofeb04?
i know that my criminal law lecturer and my coursemates who work for the CPS would answer your second essay with a resounding YES!

jofeb04 · 13/04/2008 12:37

It's a combined open certificate, but the module is Law and Order. This is my last piece of work before going onto the second year of psychology and social welfare.

The large part of this is whether there has always been a crisis though (historically there have been gangs, theives etc), and whether there will always be a crisis!

Hello! Also staring at my computer screen in desperation. Hegemonic mass culture anyone?

jofeb04 · 13/04/2008 12:43

lol Indith, I'm on my fifth cup of coffee

Dc are being good for me though to get on with some work.

Indith · 13/04/2008 12:51

I have "rescued" a slab of cooking chocolate from the kitchen, Bob Harris is on my radio from last night, I have so far referenced Friends, Harry Potter and Douglas Adams. Am 661 words into 2,500. I can do this!

fairylights · 13/04/2008 13:07

yes you CAN do it Indith!
jofeb04 - i think people working in the criminal justice system would say there is a crisis in law and order as much because of the HUGE amounts of legislation that has been passed (esp under current government) which means that the criminal justice system is overwhelmed because it is dealing with lots of new/different offences. It therefore does not deal well with offenders at all, which then perpetuates the problem...so even if there are similar levels of "bad stuff" going on as before, the system isn't helping!
Sorry, didn't mean to write all that, althouh it might be an interesting slant to put in your essay?? But feel free to ignore me if its not!! happy writing

Blondilocks · 13/04/2008 13:17

WOW, how did you manage til 3am? I struggled until midnight! Although I think some of my best essays at uni were written after midnight.

I'm revising this afternoon & thinking up a plan for fitting in the book I haven't yet finished looking at...

Good luck everyone!

jofeb04 · 13/04/2008 15:10

Thanks Fairy,
Wrote something along those lines in my conclusions.

Both my essays are almost completed now. Need to proof-read them in the morning, and add some references where needed!

Hoping I am not on this thread for a couple of weeks now
