When did your child jump both feet off ground ?

DS is 28mo and still not :( so obviously bit worried

he does a mini gallop I have seen and if he ‘jumps’ off something (like we say to jump off his balance beam onto his gym mat) he like does a quick step down doesn’t lift both feet and jump

should I be worried ?

They were able to jump by the time they were around 3ish I think.
They're in their 20s now so my recollection of all that stuff is vague but aound 3 seems right.

My kids are all pre teen now but I genuinely remember being worried about this. It seemed really late and I'm sure they were all aged 3 or 4, and my 5 year old niece hasn't been doing it that long. Honestly, your kid will be jumping and will be throw themselves about the furniture, jumping down the last couple of stairs, and you will be telling them to stop.

Somewhere between two and three is normal. Some earlier, some later. No need to be concerned unless jumping is key to his survival!

I have absolutely no idea when (or even if) any of my three ever did anything like that!! All are perfectly normal adults now, in their twenties.

Maybe he just doesn't want to do it. To be honest, I don't think anyone would ever have got me to do anything like that.

We showed ours (can you do this? Weeee) and tried to make filling out that form from the health visitor fun. He was a quick jumper but slow roller.

Try not to worry if they miss one. The concern is missing a lot or missing most of a category.

I was the last person in my preschool to learn how to skip and so much so that I got a sad face on my report card (80s were cruel!) and I've done alright for myself.

28.5 months here, can't jump. Does her little gallop thing, which is so cute. I don't think she'll be jumping for a few months minimum!

Almost 4. Most of his same aged peers mastered it at between 3-4. I only know of a few who could do it before 3 so definitely no need to be concerned.

Definitely not something to be worried about. Mine is 2 and a half and very active. He runs (fast!), his spatial awareness and balance are excellent, and he doesn't yet jump with two feet off the ground simultaneously.

He climbs and flings himself about everywhere. He's clearly absolutely fine and will learn to jump with both feet at some point. It happens naturally in time.

I didn't even realise this was a milestone to look out for!

My 5 year old has been jumping for absolutely ages, probably slightly over 2. He got a trampoline for his 2nd birthday, maybe that helped?

DS2 is almost 20 months and isn't jumping yet.

I think I read somewhere recently that jumping is actually quite an advanced motor skill and one of the last ones they “get”. DD is 4.5 and I remember being slightly concerned about a year ago that she couldn’t do it. And then suddenly one day she could! I had another baby in between so exact dates are hazy 😂

My DC was a 'late' jumper and did a sort of gallop too! Tbh I only realised when we completed the HV form at age 2.5. She wasn't concerned at all. DC is now just turned three, doing gymnastics and doesn't stop jumping!

my 28 month old has been jumping with both feet about 2 months now. he's incredibly active though - not very verbal

My DD (26 months) shouts "jump", bends her knees and throws her arms up. Both feet remain firmly on the ground. She seems very pleased with herself 😄 I'm not concerned, I'm not great at jumping myself!

My eldest was 3 and a half. My youngest was under 2.

Nearly 2 and a half is probably a way past counting a childs age in months. Jumping is absolutely not a thing for you to be worried about.

Mine didn't until he was 2. The health visitor was worried about it at his two year check and called me back at regular intervals to check if he had started jumping or not!

(He's now 7 and doesn't seem to have been hampered in any way by learning to jump late!)

I can't remember when my older dds started jumping but my 2 and a quarter year old definitely can't jump properly 🤣 she does this thing where she'll sing "5 little monkeys jumping on the bed" and bend her knees bobbing up and down but her feet don't actually leave the ground! She can jump on a mini trampoline but she's holding on with her arms so she's probably pushing herself up. I wouldn't worry about it!

DD was about 2, which seemed to be a similar age to other kids we know. I didn’t realise it was a thing to watch out for either to be honest. I’m surprised at all the responses saying not until 3-4 though, dd started ballet at age 2.5 and everyone in her class could jump, would have been strange if they couldn’t.

Not quite sure why it would be strange for a child of 2 and 1/2 to not be able to jump. It's perfectly normal to not be able to jump until after 3 and would have presumably not have stopped them being able to take part in a preschool ballet class.

I can't remember exactly but I remember her on a mini trampoline at the park in the summer so she must have been around 2yrs 7m to 2yrs 9m.

I also remember her teaching her little friend who was a few weeks older than her because he hadn't got it yet. He was very excited when he was able to copy her.

Based on that tiny bit of anecdata I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe make a point of playing jumping games with him on the grass now the weather is (kinda) improving if you're concerned?

Ds broke his leg aged 4 and after that I noticed that he couldn't jump. I don't know if he could beforehand. Anyway, I was quite worried but he must have done it again at some point. Now 16 and no problems.

This is the only message on here that made me a bit worried but the majority have told me not to be!

yes it was the HV questionnaire that sparked the worry. He is doing pretty much everything else asked apart from 2/3 other things

But yes may be ordering a toddler trampoline asap….
