Toddler keeps saying she wants to go home when we are home

My daughter will be 3 in September.
For the last week she keeps saying she wants to go home even though we are home.

She says it quite a lot through the day and it just comes from nowhere. Tonight we were on the floor doing a jigsaw and she just looked at me and said ‘let’s go home’ then just went back to what she was doing.

Shes really advance with her speech for her age and you can talk to her like you would a teenager! If I ask her where she feels home is she just stares at me blankly and doesn’t answer. Also when she’s saying it she just seems quite zoned out.

We have a happy stable household and she is the happiest wee girl most of the time.

I know I’m being crazy but it’s making me feel quite sad. I just hate the feeling she doesn’t feel comfortable in her home or like she would rather be somewhere else.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Did they grow out of it?

My child says she wants to go home when she is upset or stressed. Sometimes appropriately, and sometimes when we are at home 🤦‍♀️. She is a teen!

@Catlady38 definitely not going to get slated, it’s a valid point.

Don’t know how much I believe myself although she has said things before that has freaked us out about the children in the ceiling playing in the water. She said that for a few months then has never mentioned it since!

I just don’t have much of an opinion on that sort of thing cause I really don’t know how much I believe although I do believe there is people who are very spiritual!

My 14yo ds still says it occasionally! I think he does it when he wants a bit of reassurance.

I think it’s a way of saying I want to stop / I’m tired

She’s only 2 - she might have advanced speech but she isn’t a teenager

I’m not sure there’s any deeper to dig and you should be careful of projecting your feelings of sadness on to her.

Toddlers brains are undergoing a massive growth period- this means 2 things: sometimes things get muddled up and secondly 12-13 hours sounds like a lot of rest but sometimes it isn't enough.

I always knew when there was a lot of growing going on- mine needed extra sleep and food portions got bigger before returning to normal.

@continentallentil it’s definitely not when she’s tired, as I said she will say it at all times of the day.

Im well aware she’s not a teenager and never treat her like she is, it’s a turn of phrase.

I haven’t projected my feelings onto her, I’m asking her simple age appropriate questions to try and decipher her little brain and she is none the wiser how it’s making me feel.

There may well be nothing else to it and she will be onto the next thing next week but it’s nice to hear similar stories.

She's 3. You're putting far too much importance on what words she is using - presumably because you feel like you can talk to her like a teenager.

She's 3. She absolutely doesn't have the vocab yet to tell you what she means.

I think she's done with the jigsaw and wants to chill in front of CBeebies for a bit.

I don’t necessarily believe either, despite how it might seem, but thought I’d mention it. Though perhaps it is just a developmental thing and all children do it. My DD was adamant she had another home and another mother!
